Change reward booking or book new flight and no show original booking
I used points to book 3 pax WLG-AKL travelling in 2 months. The flight is on Jetstar metal as not a Qantas route.
Cost was 5700pts + NZ$30.69 per person.
Son now wants to stay down in wellington for a few more days.
His new flight will cost 6000 points + NZ$30.69
I was planning on checking in for the original flight without him and book him a new flight but this probably isnt the best was to rearrange.
Fare rules shown below.
I am concerned that trying to cancel would also cancel my wife and my booking as well.
Not familiar with reward flights so thought i was ask the flyertalk collective for your thoughts on the best way to reschedule.
Thanks in advance

What was.is the cash price of JQ and AirNZ flights WLG AKL?
Is very dependent on how far ahead you are wanting to fly.
Do you have a QF PNR reference? You award will be a JQ flight number

A no show maybe better value for money.

Things to know
- Only some bookings can be divided online, see eligible bookings for more information.
- Once your booking's been successfully divided, a new booking reference will be provided for the separated passengers.
- When you separate passengers from a booking, they may retain a record of the original booking reference, and they'll be able to make changes to that booking. To obtain a new reference for the original booking, contact your local Qantas office.
- Any special requests, such as a dietary required meal, will be carried over to the new booking.
- Any additional services such as travel insurance or car hire that were included in the original booking may not be carried over to the new booking.

I would simply change his booking - this will have no impact on the other bookings
6000 + 5000 to make the change = 11000 if no refund of points difference is provided to change - no additional tax to pay - so total cost 11000 + $30.69
To cancel and rebook would have a 6000 penalty , so no points refund, but would get the taxes back - so total cost = 11,700 points + $30.69
vs no show and booking anew
6000 + 5700 + $30.69 + $30.69 = 11700 points plus $61.38 which seems to be worst value
Cheapest option seems to be to just change existing booking

The part that is missed here, is you will need to split the PNR. So he will have his own booking reference and then you will have a different one. Once you have split the PNR you or he can make all the changes you like.

I split the PNR online then had to call Qantas to change the tickets. Took a while on the phone as they struggled to find the flight but got it done in the end for 5000 points and strangely 13 cents difference in tax.
Thanks everyone for your help
