No priority orange tags today in first class PDX - LAX. Our bags came off in the middle of the pack, after the carousel had malfunctioned and had to be repaired. I’m sure the people whose bags were off first were already in their hotel rooms while we were still waiting.

Follow up, SMF to SEA today bags came up together and in the first batch. This was good.
However, 1 suitcase was destroyed. The handle was no longer attached and a sharp metal piece that used to be part of the rolling handle was sticking up like an antenna. I was laughing out loud and got a kick out of it. While waiting for car service to arrive at curbside walked up to baggage line. “Was this how you checked this in?” I politely replied “no, and I would be disappointed if an Alaska agent would permit me to check in a piece of luggage in this condition that is potentially a danger to the handling crew”. Got $100 voucher, and didn’t bother regarding a piece of,luggage that was about 1 year old as the driver had arrived curbside and we just wanted to get home. Wife got a kick out of the checking in baggage experiment and now better appreciative of why we each are best served to just roll as a carry on

Curious, what is the official policy on those orange tags? I know this only started for AS after the American Airlines partnership but what is the “official” policy and expectation?

The orange tags are no longer how rampers sort the bags - it's the the "Priority" printed on the barcode.
Many pax try to reuse the orange tags after their status drops below MVPG (and then complain on FT that their bag didn't come out first lol).
What's interesting to me is that purchasing First on Alaska doesn't get you Priority on the bag tag. Only status (of MVPG or higher) does.

I checked bags on both legs of 2 roundtrips on AS this month; when checking in at first class counters, agents did not have Orange Priority tags. Has the practice quietly gone away?

Completely agree. My bag has been almost last on my last 2 flights... I have some patience for that at a small outstation, but both of these were arriving back at SEA
Got em on my last two flights -- but they didn't make a difference
What I want to know is whether AS has an operational metric the Ops and leadership teams track associated with Priority bags coming out first.
And if so, how often does it currently happen??
