C seat downgraded, possible compensation
I'm asking out of curiosity. Took CX327. It is usually CX widebody that has the 1-2-1 seat throughout. I'm so glad I picked the 2nd row seat because this time I saw it's the old Dragon Air CX330 (only first 2 rows are 1-2-1, the rest is 2-2-2!). I hear many complain and protest, but anyway, I'm assuming CX doesn't owe any compensation because technically 2-2-2 are still C seats?

The definition of 'guarantee' in CX short haul world is still not really a guarantee, if you've flown CX long enough to realize.
But yes SHA (together with PEK 386 / 390, HND 548, CTS, as mentioned above) is essentially a guaranteed route. It's really only these four for CX regional. If OP has some sort of status it wouldn't hurt to send in a word to protest

For the record CX has treated me nothing but well in the past so I really have no issues with CX, and I left because 80% of my travels are intra-China or places not served by CX as much. But, I am trying my best to be DM again after the revamp. I only wish I've found FlyerTalk sooner as I was navigating blind in the past and the wealth of information here would of greatly enhanced my travel experiences (not to mention how to maximize the points and credit cards. I've wasted millions of Marco Polo points in the past).

I actually kept the 1-2-1 because I reserved a 2nd row seat. I'm merely asking out of curiosity as I've made plain in the OP, and I heard people complain at the gate. Why is everything assumed to be a complaint or ways to get goodies? Isn't FlyerTalk a place to exchange information?? Anyway, thanks for the information.
That being said, IMHO 327 on the regionals is still fine. 659/714/796 red-eyes on the regionals isn't great.

Because this topic (CX's regional J product being everywhere) has been discussed to death around these parts. People are just annoyed you didn't look hard enough.

The lie-flats would be great for sleeping but alas, CX has better plans...
