Probably shifted to more domestic / sun flying. In the same update they moved up resumptions to YYG and YQT from YYC.

And I see a handful more CUN/PVR/SJD too.

Someone sent me a link to a tweet (1st spoiler below since link/embed seems messed up) that says WS is cancelling YYC-RDU and a bunch of other TB routes. Not sure how reliable it is. I see YYC-RDU is still for sale, and the same account said 6 weeks ago (2nd spoiler) that RDU was being dropped... But hollywoodcory17 has been talking about that one for a while, so there's some plausibility. Unless their source is just reading speculation in this thread

I'm also wondering about TPQ. When I took that flight, the loads were very light, and the FA said it had consistently been like that (although we all know that's not always a reliable source, she had worked the flight a few times, and it's only once a week). I assume there has been some substantial subsidy from a local authority to get that one going, and since they're building a much bigger, more modern terminal, one might think they'd be inclined to continue it for a while. But most of the conversations I heard around me seemed to revolve around using it as an alternate way to get to resorts around PVR, and how scalable/sustainable is that as a business model? There certainly wasn't much to see or do in and around TPQ itself. Not according to the locals, anyway, who all seemed surprised that a couple of gringos had come to visit.

WS is not that strong in YYZ/YVR anyways, not a surprise as I imagine they are more reliant on leisure travelers than AC.

The rest of the modified summer schedule was filed overnight in the OAG and should be bookable later today. I wont comment further until its actually publicly bookable.

Though if you have access to any GDS platform (or Expert Flyer) you can already see some of the changes via DL / KE codeshares.

The schedule is live now, and yes a bunch of US routes got removed including RDU.

Some increases too like YYC-ATL going up to 3x daily, YYC-BOS up to 11x weekly, YYC-YUL up to 3x daily etc.

Interesting that they're increasing some US routes while cancelling others altogether. Any idea what the net effect is on TB capacity?

its probably in the 25-30% range in terms of whats been cut.

Heres a summary of the routes dropped for this summer:

YYC-RDU
YYC-OGG
YYC-FLL
YEG-SEA
YEG-SFO
YEG-ATL
YEG-ORD
YEG-BNA
YEG-YUL
YVR-BOS
YVR-BNA
YVR-TPA
YVR-SFO
YVR-SAN
YVR-MCO
YVR-YUL
YVR-YOW
YLW-SEA
YYZ-LAX
YYZ-LAS
YWG-ATL
YWG-LAS
YWG-BNA

YYC-HNL has a brief suspension from late April until June 27.

I havent fully reviewed all the domestic changes, but it seems at least some of that has gone to domestic increases as well as more flights to Mexico / Caribbean.

i'm so dumb, i actually DID look at the date before sending that and i settled on it still being January 2026. my mind is still stuck back in time, i swear

anyway, it's going to be another empty summer at the YEG transborder gates, maybe CBP will unplug the Global Entry machines for yet another year!

Even though most of the cuts do not involve YYC, with the few cuts they made there they are below the 100-destination mark, giving them another opportunity to announce their 100th destination when the US climate changes.

It's interesting that several of the routes being discontinued involve airports where WS is trying to compete against a dominant home carrier. Routes into ORD and SFO are less useful than competing flights from United because the latter plug into the major hubs UA operates at those airports. The YEG-SEA and YLW-SEA routes were OK options but, again, are of less value than the directly competing AS services into its SeaTac hub. The same arguably applies with YEG-YUL and YVR-YUL as YUL is one of AC's most important hubs. YVR-YOW? The latter is becoming a key PD hub.

The really regrettable losses are the YEG-ATL and YWG-ATL flights which plug into the most important hub of WS' partner DL. The problem with the Edmonton flight, though, has always been that it doesn't benefit from preclearance at YEG.

Wow. That's a huge cut.

Interesting about the YEG cuts .... ORD, SEA, and SFO are the only YEG TB routes where Westjet has competition (UA, AS, and AC respectively). Guess there's demand, but just not enough for more than one carrier.

YVR/YEG-YUL - I thought Westjet was trying to grow in YUL again after the Sunwing acquisition, but I guess that for now, that'll be mostly winter flights down south.

YWG-LAS/ATL are also surprising - you'd think a city as big as Winnipeg could support these. I know YEG is losing ATL too, but that's a much longer flight, and as others mentioned, the timing wasn't great.

Also of note - Starting in August (albeit for a short season), YYC will have 3 carriers competing on New York (AC to EWR, WJ to JFK, and AA to JFK/LGA). As far as I know, this is only the second destination where 3 airlines will compete (the other being ORD with UA, WJ, and AA).
