Seat assignment fees for LH flights booked via UA has a moving target, consult LH Seat selection and advance seat reservation for present rules
As of July 2021
Codeshares are now included
UA economy award tickets -- no fee No longer free March 2026
Paid economy tickets (without higher LH status) -- fee varies on flight distance, intraEurope may be fee for higher economy fares
Paid Premium Economy (without higher LH status) -- fee varies on flight distance
Business / First -- no fee,even for codeshares

yeah, sounds like LH is transmitting EUR fees to UA and they are getting converted. While I dont like the fee aspect, it is great that they integrated that technology

I just checked in and got 19D -- it's a short flight FRA-VCE and I'll live, but I really despise aisle seats. Especially when I'm tired and jetlagged.
I tried to change on the LH app which brought me to the UA app which brought me back to the LH app
(This is on an upgraded revenue ticket ORD-FRA)

How were you able to tweak it?
I just checked in and got 19D -- it's a short flight FRA-VCE and I'll live, but I really despise aisle seats. Especially when I'm tired and jetlagged.
I tried to change on the LH app which brought me to the UA app which brought me back to the LH app
(This is on an upgraded revenue ticket ORD-FRA)

I did ask at the gate. Nada. I would never ask someone to switch seats with me, especially since i disagree - I think most pax like windows.
I was in the very back near the lav, it was pretty awful.
I recommend anyone who cares where they sit to pay the small fee ahead of time.

Just booked intra-Europe award on LX in Y (NAP-ZRH) and was able to select seats at purchase through the UA App. (A good value, by the way, at around 2.2 cpp.)

Yes, as previously stated, award tkts never had a problem selecting seats. Nor do business class tickets which can even be done via the UA app.

How to Make Seat Assingment on LH with UA Flight?
Back in the day, if you bought a ticket with United and one leg was with Lufthansa, you could go to the Lufthansa site after booking and choose your seat. Now I see that functionality no longer exists on LH. It says I have to call (ugh) or pick a seat when checking in (ugh x 2).
Is there any way to reserve a seat in advance?
Details: I'm in Economy K class and I want to get a bulkhead or exit row seat for an 9 hour flight.
