Poll makes clear the typical UA FT member is not the typical UA flyer. Non-members, readers only may be more typical.
As the OP mentioned 1978, Not for pre-MileagePlus membership mileage (the earlier 80's for many).
Either the UA app or online account page (Manage Your United MileagePlus Account | United Airlines | https://www.united.com/en/us/myunited) will show your lifetime flight miles.

1,515,989. Flying with this MP # since 1986. (Which was Eastern One Pass at the time).
