MNL CX lounge closure [and reopening]
The CX lounge at MNL is currently closed - it was open just under 2 weeks ago when I passed through. I didn't ask at check in when it was due to reopen and I'm not sure why it's closed. There appear to be general renovations going on at the airport. The APEC line is now reopened and to the far left of the departure area.
CX passengers are being diverted to the A lounge. It is a fraction of the size of the CX lounge and very busy. It's ok for a quick coffee or can of beer or to log on to wifi but less comfortable to relax for a couple of hours. So if you are planning on a breakfast at the CX lounge, you might want to grab breakfast elsewhere and plan not to arrive super early to relax in the lounge.
I did search to see if this is mentioned in another thread but couldn't see it, but happy for moderators to remove if this is a duplicate conversation.

I was given a lounge pass for the A lounge (as a J pax OWE). When I got there the lounge people said that they had reserved some seats for CX pax, and led me to one of them. This lounge is just ok. It was moderately crowded ahead of the 12:30 CX930 flight. A few scattered open seats only. The food is also just ok. Some Filipino favorites, a noodle dish, rice dish. Quite a comedown from the CX noodle bar. Note that the wine and some other alcohol is at a far corner from the rest of the drink and food setup. Took me a while to notice it. I made do with this lounge but I hope the CX lounge gets opened up again soon.
Priority pass people can use this A lounge or also Marhaba. I went and checked Marhaba and the situation there was about the same as A lounge, without the benefit of reserved seats for CX. About half of Marhaba is reserved for Thai airways passengers. The rest was about the same level of crowded, same catering, drinks, etc. Much of a muchness between A lounge and Marhaba.
The email alert I got (on the morning of the flight) said that the closure was due to a maintenance issue. So there's some confusion about the reason. Maybe the renovations revealed the maintenance issue. Who knows? But it seems CX got blindsided by NAIA about this. It was completely unforeseen.

Last time when the PVG lounge was closed just for a couple of days, they posted the relevant information on the website. This time, CX didn't, which I don't like.

It was definitely closed on 30th August per this e-mail. I was flying MNL-HKG in J and given 9,000 AsiaMiles as compensation. I was told several lounges were closed and it was the result of an electrical issue overnight. I used the A lounge which I had to pay 35 USD for and it kind of sucked in comparison to Cathay. Very small, food average and was rammed due to the Cathay closure with lots of seats reserved. Staff were really nice.

Anyway, I saw with my own eyes on the 31st that it was closed. Snapped a couple of photos which I won't bother with here unless someone really wants to see. I also got the same email that someone posted below. I got the same offer of Asiamiles, which is useless for me since I always fly using my AA number. If anybody hears of any alternative compensation for non-Asiamiles people please let me know. I'm not too put out about it since it doesn't seem to be CX's fault.
The important thing is it seems to be open again.

For this I don't think CX could offer more, maybe more miles if you insist, but I don't think any more than miles and lounge access compensation.

9000AM can be used to redeem oneway Econ beetween HKG-MNL or other short haul destinations, it might not be much but could still be useful.
