Yay, just made platinum! Still have questions !

Having just started enjoying AF in Winter 2023, I’m happy to make platinum. Thanks for all the advice the last 2 years!

I still don’t get one thing though. UXPs. How do you earn them???? I get XPs but never UXP. And how are they different?

You will only start earning UXP now that you are Platinum.

UXP count towards Ulti status and you only earn them on AFKL flights (and maybe on other Flying Blue airlines? Not sure), not on other SkyTeam airlines.

Congrats!

"Gain UXP only on flights marketed by Air France or KLM.
You can also earn XP and UXP by purchasing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)."

Just remember extra XP doesn't carry over (there's a limit on how much XP you can carry over, namely 300 XP).

Also, what you need this year to reach Platinum doesn't mean is what you need - say - in 2 years from now to reach Platinum. AFKL is free to increase (or lower, but that will never happen) the thresholds. So even if you need 2699 more XP to get to Platinum for life spread over 9 years, it might be that at some point you will need more than 300 annually to continue being Platinum.

While that is absolutely true and a change to the qualification rules could happen at any time - AFKL seems to be taking the path reducing the XP earnings (look at the new basic fares for the first step).

I’m hopeful that status qualification rules won’t change anytime soon (on top of the earning restrictions that are coming up..).

But we won’t know for sure of course. 10 years is a long time.

This is all so new to me coming from AA.

Ive been taking advantage of transcon trips as well as any Delta trips to gain XP as well as ....buying up SAF.

My goal is to book a La Premiere flight at some point exCDG (what are the longest laP routes?) with miles and then buy my wife the other seat.

Better to book her the award ticket and earn points and miles on the cash fare yourself!

San Francisco, Săo Paulo and Tokyo are the longest exCDG trips. I am guessing that you want to depart CDG to get the full experience, but if not it would be a very nice way to arrive in Paris from New York.

Thanks for the geography lesson.
There seems to have been somewhat of a sale on LP CDG-SIN on certain dates, it can be had for Ł8500 return when flying from the UK (a lot more expensive if you fly directly out of CDG)

Similar fare is often available out of VIE - 8 thousand something euros for a return to SIN in P. It's been around for months, so not a sale.

Although I have been around on FT for a while I am only newly venturing into the AF forums, previously having mainly inhabited BA.
It seems I have some adjustments to make.
"Somewhat of a sale" doesn't mean I thought it was actually a sale price, it just means I thought it is a reasonable price somewhat below my expectations.
I need to restrain my British idiomatic speech and be more directly fact based.
Doesn't seem likely I'm going away for at least a couple of years, so please bear with me as I pick up the Zeitgeist of this sub-forum.

Thanks for the geography lesson.
In case it can help, I had made this map of flight distances from CDG/AMS.
Also, beware that flights to Asia are much longer than their optimal route as long as Russia is a no-fly zone for European airlines. (Roughly +2hrs for a CDG-HND flight vs pre-2022)
