Volunteer for later flight without taking later flight

On a particularly busy day, I asked to be rebooked the next day from SEA to SFO. I had heard the gate agents talking about how they were moving people to later flights and how that was just going to cascade to another oversold situation on the later flights. They were thrilled with booking me next day and gave me more money than they had originally offered.
