I was a handful of stays away from requalifying for Hilton diamond. The math simply doesn't make sense to have done mattress run to requalify. Most of my stays are business. Having mid-tier status at multiple brands with more convenient locations to my clients makes more sense. When I travel for leisure, I'll book a suite if I need.
Same thing with the airlines. I'm going to be short of EXP on AA. Not worth the spend, time or effort to chase it. The rewards jusy aren't worth it.

Quite possibly irs because they've traveled relatively heavily long enough to see how brands have devalued their loyalty programs and realized the return isn't worth the hassle. If there's a room, airline class, etc that you have your heart set on, pay for it.

I have got very good mileage out of being Platinum in last 4 years in Asia and even Europe. It is in the US where the loyalty status means less, it is not the case in other destinations I have noticed.
Asia is the best at status recognition + upgrades + other benefits.

We can travel more these days (kids grown up), and having achieved Plat soon after Covid, we're hooked and really enjoy the Plat benefit of elite breakfast, and evening lounge access. As other have indicated, the benefits are good in Asia, Europe, and also Middle East. Much less in N America.
The double night promo is important to me, because it gets me thinking about travelling and staying in Marriott hotels, so I get closer to LTP.

While we all wait for Marriott to make up their mind, can I ask a question? Let’s say the start date is 2/11. I have a one week reservation that ends on 2/11. How does Marriott typically handle their dates? Is the first night that counts the night from 2/11 to 2/12, i.e., checking out on 2/11 gets me nothing? And for completeness, if my checkout had been on 2/12, would the entire stay have counted for the rumored promo, or only the last night?
(I am not going to be able to change the reservation, so it is what it is, I am just curious).

He might not chase status even when he was SPG elite. He might just simply prefer to stay at SPG properties because SPG was a great program. You might not have much knowledge on SPG which many here would argue it was the best hotel loyalty program before Marriott bought the chain. SPG was truly guest oriented. Such as that if you were for whatever reason being a no show on an award stay (passed the cancellation deadline) and being charged the one day cash rate, you could request SPG to contact the property to reverse the cash rate charge and paid with your pts in the original booking. Not so with Marriott, many properties won’t even tell you what the cash rate would be should you unfortunately became a no show.
SPG used to have a great social media rep presence on FT, that helped many FTers to resolve many issues. I think those who know William would all muss him. I wonder if he is still with HHonor.

Ah IC. So at one time he chased status perhaps, to get to that level... I just got Platinum status with Marriott due to work (trips occurred during the double nights promo) and 1 personal trip. First time at this high level. I'm interested in seeing how my benefits will work on my trip to Tokyo later this year. Will probably be the last time, as I have heard my company will be moving from Marriott to Hilton this year.

plenty of double point promos elsewhere - Marriott is once again missing the mark during the slow travel season. Sad.
