Elevate Your Status (status buy-up offers from AC, 2022 onwards)

Loyalty only matters to AC as it translates to profitability. I don't know what metrics they use to determine buy-up offers, but they're likely more interested in how offering a buy-up will drive future profitability than rewarding past loyalty. What they think of your metrics, or mine, who knows. Several years ago, one of the Aeroplan execs said that they had a lot of people who were way over the next status level on AQD (as it was at the time) but short on AQM or AQS, and they were more interested in those people than the ones who were going to lose/downgrade status because they didn't have enough AQD - people flying 100 segments for $5K were very "loyal", but not very profitable.
They've given the SQD-heavy people the ability to help close that gap with the credit card (spend-based SQM/SQS, rollover SQM), but there's no way to bump your SQD without flying (or spending money on a UFP). I also get the sense that offers have mostly targeted people who had the SQD but were short on SQM/SQS, although I've not gone through the posts and tried to compile statistics.
So I don't think offers for people who meet the SQM/SQS but fall short on the SQD are going to be very likely. Or at least not very appealing (e.g. maybe buy-up costs $5K to make up your $3.5K shortfall).

Mrs. W will drop to 50K from 75K. She ended the year with 58k SQM and >12k SQD. I have been curious as to whether she would receive any sort of offer. So far nothing. The SQM gap is somewhat large though. In any case, I'm not certain it would be worthwhile to take an offer if it came. There are still a couple of weeks I guess, so we will wait and see if anything comes.

The incremental benefits between 50K and 75K weren't worth it for us.

That's a pretty good deal for him since he wasn't even going to get status next year. I just hate how they charge the same price for everyone. I was at 34K SQM and $7K SQD and still had the same $799 offer. I have a premium CC as well so it wasn't worth it for me.

This is interesting insight.

Why oh why didn't you get the SQMs via credit card? Rollover makes a big difference. For many of us, the SQM requirement no longer really exist. Year after year, 200 k SQMs rollover. Only thing that matters is SQDs. And surely, AC does not mind it that way.

I suspect there will be a second wave of offers in January once everyone’s 2024 final numbers are confirmed and before benefits expire Jan 31.
Curious if “paying” for the offer with points could be done from a family share pool (for those of us in one) versus own account?

Another datapoint of one ... ended the year at 74,230 miles (I know, I mis-calculated) and $11,000 EQD ... just received second offer to buy $75k for $1,799 or 90k in points. Still think someone at AC is smoking crack if they really believe that's a good deal.

I guess AC also noticed, but had the opposite reaction.

Just received offer to get my 25K status back.
Last year was at 25,827 SQM and $2,535 SQD.
Was offered buy back to 25K for either $599 or 30,000 points.

Seems like a raw deal. Your 25200 SQM earned 25200 AP points if you bought FLEX and now they want to take it away by offering you a deal lol

Only need $600 of SQD left. But will meet it once my 016 codeshare SQD posts from last week... any day now.
