any Recommendations for carryon top lid vs clamshell design?

i am looking for a new hardside carryon luggage and debating the top lid design vs clamshell. my current softside luggage measures
24” H with wheels x 10” depth x 14 3/8 width which works on southwest obviously too big for some of the other airlines.

the top lid appears to have more storage capacity. I like that I can put it on the luggage rack in the hotel room and just pop up the lid to get access
to my clothes vs the clam shell design. interested to get your thoughts and recommendations. budget $150 or less on amazon.

What's a top lid carry-on? Can you name a brand? Never heard of it.

I have one of those, but I consider it a clamshell 😄 Top lid to me is a pelican type luggage.

I've seen those before. Reminds me of a backpack 🎒 Dig through everything to find one thing.

The Cubo series by Lojel works like this. I cant recall the dimensions of the smaller bags but I love my two large ones. You can check here: Cubo Series by Lojel

I never considered a clamshell for carry-on since accessing the content onboard would be very difficult.
