New China Eastern Lounge/Terminal?

Well, a mind fudge if you are ever to have one.

I flew out MU, MNL-PVG-LHR just before new year. Went through Terminal 1 as expected, nothing eventful although the airport did not seem busy in any sense and a lot of shops were closed.

I return LHR-PVG, with a humourous crew who must have found the TUBE announcements funny as they said And for our business class passengers, MIND THE GAP. I did chuckle.

But upon arrival in Shanghai PVG - nothing was as I remembered it. Did they take me to SHA, did I get the right plane? WHERE AM I?

I am now in a terminal where the gate begin with G - and found a much upgraded MU lounge with tasty food andheated toilets?? Never thought they were a thing until now?

My flight has now appeared on a screen and is departing from a G gate although there are a few from the more conventional 0xx gates I remembered.

Did I miss something?

Have the Chinese just developed a sense for practical jokes on a massive scale?

Was it "Lounge 137" by any chance?: https://noworkalltravel.com/2023/06/...-pudong-china/
I don't want to claim that the food was entirely edible, but it was airy and spacious for a mainland spot.

I turned up at the main lounge in PVG and was told it would be better to go to the new one as it is closer to wheee the next flight was departing.

Cant complain. Very spacious. Decent food. Showers. Close to then G gates.

That is the lounge, yes.

I had noodles from the noodlebar and then went over to the other side and took "Swedish (AKA Ikea) meatballs" to put on the noodles - quite enjoyed it really.

A bit of pick and mix, but was tasty. And yes, noodles had to be extracted from the soup...

Well, I did miss that then!

It opened just pre-covid so I have not travelled extensively through PVG - and exclusively through T1 proper, so this is my first time. Amazing that I never knew it was there!

I agree - the other lounge is better than the main one and it looks like their trying to develop a balcony area.

Hello,

Doing some homework and it seems like MU had 119 and 137 lounges in S1, FT post in 2019 suggests 119 is for STE+ in Y and 137 is for J/F.
A recent-ish Chinese SM posts suggest 119 is closed, pax sent to 137, which collaborates with FindingFoodFluency's post saying they also entered 137 as STE+.
Has anyone else been to 119 before it was closed, was it much inferior to 137?
Edit: answered https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/31805753-post57.html

OT, I was in T1 in 23Dec and noticed 36 Lounge had "Sky Priority" branding, I thought SP had nothing to do lounge access?
FindingFoodFluency's post of 137's entrance has no SP branding.

MU are now part of SkyTeam. So their lounges are open to F, J pax as well as Sky Priority guests.

Hi PAL62V, I'm new to ST, but I thought SP was a check in, security, boarding expedition service but does not include lounge access. ST Elite Plus (which gives access to SP) is what gives access to ST lounges, so I'm confused why the PVG MU lounge has SP branding (and not ST EP)...

My MU flight to MAD used T1 gates instead of S1, but had enough time to take the shuttle to check out the S1 lounges (10min to get from 36 to 137 door to door).
119 still closed and all eligible pax still sent to 137.
Expected 137 to have better F&B than the plebeian-non-platinum side of 36, but it's the same offerings, and no LNY specials.
Not quite LHR T5B where the offerings are better than T5A biz as it's a combined lounge for OWE/OWS.
The airport ran 39/135 (via priority pass) actually had more food options, but more crowded.
Overall not that impressed, particularly since MU has the lounge 77 (in name) that is better than 36/137 that MU pax actually uses...

Speaking of LHR, for PVG the shuttle from departures area of S1 to T1 uses the same shuttle as arrivals S1-T1 but segrated into its own mini area. Whereas in LHR from T5B/C one can't take the shuttle back to T5A departures.

Does Lounge 137 offer recliners or massage chairs? I have a 6-hour layover, so want to get some sleep. I don't see this info in reviews, so assume it's only the Lounge 36 feature 👀

There are a couple of nap rooms. Just ask at the showers reception for a key.

Hi, newbie lounge access question:

I read Skyteam rules do not give lounge access for domestics, but is MU more generous?

MAD-PVG-XMN (in W and using STE+), MU lounge access in PVG?

XMN-SHA on FM, standalone Y ticket, MF lounge access in XMN?

Thank you!
