oneworld and Other Airline (Partner) Awards info, rules 2014 on
- JL awards are now shown show and can be booked on aa.com
- AwardNexus (free to FlyerTalk members for basic searches) will also reveal, and (for a fee) alert, on JL award seats
- AA awards on JL must be MileSAAver (AAnytime awards are only available on AA marketed and AA operated flights)
- There are no onerous fuel or carrier-imposed surcharges using AAdvantage miles for awards using JL
- JL initially releases awards to AAvantage members 330 days out at 10:00 am JST time (18:00 PDT, 17:00 PST). Note, JL award inventory is released to members of other FFPs 360 day out and updates award and revenue seat award availability once daily ~09:30-12:00 Pacific time
- JL may release 0-2 F and 0-4 J award seats initially; until taken they remain available up to three months from release
- No further seats are likely to be released until shortly (~14 days) prior to scheduled departure - but the last F seat will be retained for sale, not released into award inventory
- No stopovers are allowed on AA awards. Connections may be as long as 23:59.
- Only JAL Mileage Bank members can waitlist awards
- All awards for domestic Japan will default to Economy (including international F or J award with domestic segments); these can often be upgraded at reasonable cost at the ticket counter in the Japan connecting airport
- If JL & QF are showing availability, but AA can't see it, try calling the Australia AA center as it may be a point-of-sale issue

Correct me if I am wrong, but you aren't going to find HND-LAX-XXX without HND-LAX. If you find HND-LAX-XXX without finding HND-LAX, HND-LAX-XXX is phantom.

Theoretically there could be married segment issues but I've never actually seen it be the issue with JL.

New to the award space and need ideas for a Y award on HND to SEA either direct or multicity booking. Was thinking of HND-HNL and HNL-SEA or HND-LAX and LAX-SEA for March last week. I know it's one of the best season.
Can I wait for the last minute award opening or is it better to book something now itself ?

Greetings from the Royal Park Hotel at HND. My room is a bit on the small side, and I'm hungry because they had already stopped serving food by the time I checked in, but other than that,I'm pleased with the hotel.
I flew in on an MU a350 from PVG in Y, which was surprisingly great.
Immigration and customs at HND took a long time though...not because of lines, but because there was a shocking number or bureaucracies that almost made China immigration seem civilized by comparison.
I'm a little bit regretful of not sticking with my original AA flights from PVG to JAX because the schedule was super convenient, but now I have my JL flight in business class instead.
I'll opine later about whether or not the HND transit was worth the hassles, but I've always enjoyed JL in the past.
Business class on the AA itinerary would have set me back 450k miles (v 35k in economy). Obviously, 60k miles for JL is a more attractive deal, and there were lots of flights to choose from starting about 3 weeks in.

Essentially, my wife and I will be flying to Japan from Austin from Feb 3-11. I have premium economy/economy awards booked.
But now I have the miles to get business awards.
I’ve never flown business long-haul and I don’t want to miss the opportunity.
It seems when I’ve looked the past few days, there has been some flights from various places that have a seat or two available at the 60k miles rate. But few and far between, and not on the dates I need.
I know I’ve read that this is common with JAL. But…is there any way I can be proactive on this? I’ve been checking obsessively. It seems like JAL awards aren’t available on Expertflyer, or I would set up alerts there.
Specifically looking to book from Austin to Tokyo on Feb 3 and ideally Osaka to Austin on Feb 11
