PC member renting at the Hertz Waikiki Hyatt location. Booked one day fullsize for mid-February weekend day. Any thoughts on what I'll be assigned? Looks like no Ultimate Choice etc but what are the odds of a complimentary 'upgrade' or something similar. First time renting a car (PC through Amex Plat - National - Status Match).

Thanks!

The airport has a much better selection. You might want to rent from there and Uber over.

Definitely thought about that but to do so would need to get overnight parking in Waikiki plus pay for an extra day. Current rental cost is only $40, it would be $75 + $40(?) for parking - $20 transfer. Just can't quite justify that cost. If I booked fullsize at both locations what are your guesses at the vehicle I'd be assigned?

Thanks

booking at an airport location will provide you with UC, however, it will also be more expensive due to the airport bs fees. take your pick...

For Waikiki, I would expect an Altima or Malibu.

Forced PrePaid Fuel in Waikiki

Hi,

When I price out a car rental (pick up in the am and return in the pm) in November at the Waikiki Hyatt location (and some others) the price is always including the "prepaid fuel option:" and it can't be changed.
Any solution?

It doesn't do that for us. Are you sure that prepaid fuel is not selected as an automatic option on your Hertz profile? Try logging out and/or reserving from an incognito window and see if it makes a difference.

As an aside, you might want to either get to quote from AutoSlash or track your rental after booking with us for price drops as it might end up saving you some money,

Checked and unchecked that option and used another browser.
this time it was pre-selected but I could uncheck it no problem.
must have been a browser problem.
thanks

Slightly OT, but note that the gas prices at Costco/Sam's Club will be the best option for gas; I paid $4.58 a gallon at Sam's Club Pearl City this past weekend. I find the info on GasBuddy to be pretty reliable.

Second the gas buddy recommendation. But last time we visited Oahu we wanted to fill up at Costco and found the gas station and parking lot to be a complete cluster. Used gas buddy to find a nearby alternative option and gladly paid 10-20 cents a gallon more for zero wait and zero chaos (we generally rent econoboxes on the islands since we dont need the space or power of a larger vehicle).

My local Costco doesnt have gas, so I am not very experienced with it, but from other horror stories it seems that its not an unusual experience.

You probably were needlessly scared away. Costco gas lines are usually quick in my experience (even when the queue is full). The pumps are "high speed" and they usually have long cords so you don't have to line up based on where your tank is.

The Costco fuel station in Iwilei (nearest to HNL) has waits that average about 20-30 minutes; it's why I rarely get fuel there and drive out further to Pearl City.

Just finished a rental at the Hertz in Hyatt Waikiki. Rented May 6-7.

There is a worker there named Jessie at the Gold Desk who is super helpful and nice.

I did a walk up without any reservation and got a 2023 Mustang Convertible with 5000 miles on it. Rate was $127. Then with age differential and taxes final price was $161.

They gave me a 4 hour grace period which actually ended up being an 8 hour grace period. I had the car from 2 PM day 1 to 9 PM day 2.

Join AAA and avoid the age differential.
