Chase Shut Down thread: (Archived version found here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase-ultimate-rewards/1526572-chase-closed-my-credit-card-account-s-consolidated.html]
There is a general Shut Down thread in the Manufactured Spend forum, found here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1948543-2019-shutdown-thread.html

If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What happened?
When someone reports an account closure here, people are curious as to both the background on the Chase relationship and any/all potential shut down triggers. Please answer any relevant questions to give details. This could help figure out what happened or how you could proceed:
  1. Background: Do you have both Credit Cards and Banking accounts with Chase? Tell us your history at Chase. What do you feel the trigger could have been? Does anything unusual (from the bankers perspective) go on in your accounts? How long have you had a banking relationship with Chase? Please explain.
  2. Ultimate Rewards: Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last names? Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Potentially suspicious activities: Do you use multiple sources to pay your credit card bills, such as Walmart Bill Pay? Do you ACH using multiple accounts? Did you recently wire transfer large amounts into or out of your Chase accounts?
  4. Bonus Earnings: Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  5. Other possible Triggers:
  6. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  7. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line or cycling the credit lines on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  8. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  9. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit recently? Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score? Do you mimic a "bust out" profile? (Someone maxing out credit prior to filing bankruptcy)
  10. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  11. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  12. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  13. Did you abuse the Chase Refer a Friend system?
  14. Did you use/abuse Chase's new checking/savings sign up bonus incentives?
  15. Did you bounce a check for a credit card payment?
  16. DId someone at your address get shut down also?
  17. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other accounts at Chase? Are they in good standing?
  18. Did you dispute or return items on your credit cards? How many times?
  19. Have you recently needed back office help on your accounts, which may have triggered a review or called attention to something?

Churn was probably the wrong word, she just took out the cards, made the sign-on bonus, and then kept the card for the free night award. She hadn't cancelled one due to AF in several years. But once she hit signup bonus, then no spend on the two old ones cancelled (they didn't cancel her Freedom Flex which we use modestly).

See took out 2 biz and 2 personal in Feb/Mar, with one biz and one personal with Chase this year and no Chase in the prior 24 months. . 4 non-chase biz card approvals in 2022, no personal applications.

To me this sounds like Chase perceives a "bust out" risk.

Today, I dot a letter dated 4/11 saying they would shut them down on 5/7. They will refund the annual fee they say.

No MS spend, but fairly large churn. We just sat out to get our 5/24 under, and applied for several new cards on a few banks, including Chase Ink, Chase Business IHG (maybe I'll get a letter on the business cards soon) and Aer Lingus. I already got the points on the Ink card but I was 3/4 of the way through the spend for the Signup Bonus on Aer Lingus. I was told no more points would be awarded. The reason was "bank decision".

I asked if I could appeal - "No, final decision". Any more details?- No "bank decision" is all we will say. Can I speak to a supervisor "no". Then he ended the discussion.

Anyone ever successful in going to Consumer Protection Finance Bureau?
Can I read anything into them leaving the Freedom open?

I'm worried there is another shoe to drop on her business cards, one of which has a SUB bonus to post next May.
My wife's account closure date (May 7) will be before the next statement closing date.

Any thoughts as to whether I’ll get the points on spend on the last period post my last statement date?

Im $4k through a $5k spend, and was planning to hit the $5k soon. Any thoughts on whether they might still give me the signup bonus?

My bad, I clarified my post to be clearer that it's my wife's account.

The exact same thing happened to me. Read the last 7 posts in the following thread, and then call Chase ASAP and get your statement cut date changed (you might tell them you want your "due date" changed):
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/35198972-post28.html

Make sure your new statement cut date is several days before your scheduled acct closure so all points post. And I don't think there's any harm (and it COULD be beneficial) if you close the Chase acct yourself rather than have them close it on you.

It didn't show that it had advanced my next statement cut date either after I did it online, however I then called to make sure............and then called a second time to confirm that the first agent gave me correct info. Sure enough my statement cut 4 days earlier, I got all my UR pts, transferred them, then shut my Chase acct myself.

These quotes seem to refer to changing statement closing date online. I’ve changed a Chase statement closing date dozens of times by calling, including an hour ago, have never seen a way to do it myself online, which I’d much prefer. Please direct me to the appropriate webpages and/or links. Thank you.

More > Update Settings and Preferences > Payment due date.

We cannot directly select a Statement date. If you are editing a personal account the difference between the Statement and Due date is 25 days. Business account is 22 days. I have all our accounts set to generate statements on the 3rd, which means Due on the 25th (business) or 28th (personal).

I dont believe it goes by business days. I believe its based on calendar dates. For example, my payment due dates are all the 10th of the month. and mine all close on the 13/16 respectively, no matter if the prior month is has 28 days or 31 days.

Yes, sorry I should have been more clear. There isn't an option to change the statement cut date. However the above way of changing the due date does the same thing. I just brought my due date 4 days earlier via the online method shown above and although it didn't show ONLINE that my statement cut date was 4 days earlier, I confirmed that it WAS in fact by calling Chase and asking them.

Correct, but the number of days between the billing date and due date is different for business and personal card accounts, and this matters if one is trying to work backward from the due date to the billing date.

RNE, noting that I don't bank where I card.
My note no longer applies. I now do bank where I card, i.e. JPMCB

Let me explain. I recently opened a Chase checking account, not for the cash bonus, though I certainly made sure to reap that, but because my main bank is a regional (FGBM). And if it goes under, how long will I wait (days? weeks?) for the FDIC to make me whole? I still have money in that regional, but now I also have a substantial portion of just-in-case money with Chase, a safe haven.

RNE, opining that if JPMCB goes belly-up, the entire economy has collapsed.

LOL, I remember talking to an in-branch Chase rep trying to sell me on investment accounts. I asked something about the risks and FDIC, etc., and he smugly replied that unlike other banks, if JPMC goes under, then we take the entire economy with us.
