Hotel bonuses to earn Companion Pass?

Hi everyone,

IM looking to get my first companion pass and had a question about booking hotels through southwest for the points. Do the hotel bookings count for the companion pass ?

Yes, this is how my girlfriend is getting companion pass for next year. Look for the hotels with the bonus points (blue ribbon when searching) and then you can also upgrade the bonus points for a fee (usually something like 5k extra points for $69). All of these points count towards companion pass, at least they have so far for her.

I don't read the rules to include any hotel bonus points or purchased extra bonus points:

"Companion Pass qualifying points are earned from revenue flights booked through Southwest, points earned on Southwest Rapid Rewards Credit Cards, and base points earned from Rapid Rewards partners"

It depends on the definition of "base points" on hotel bookings.

Found this reference also:

https://www.southwest.com/html/rapid...unication.html

"This activity does not count toward companion pass:
  • Partner bonus points (with the exception of the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards)"
Mod note: two different things are being confused here; ignore the above.

Anybody have any experience with this?

I agree that the wording is vague and doesn't really make sense, I'm just speaking from experience that it did work for us. Here is a screenshot of her companion pass eligible points, showing the hotel with +10,000 points. I assure you we did not earn that by spending $10k on a hotel haha.

I believe there is a thread that was on here where I found that it did indeed count towards companion pass points, which is why we decided to try it and it worked great.

I have verified that for Southwest Hotels, all points count toward Companion Pass status!

Curious if people are willing to share what they've found as the cheapest hotels offering the most bonus points? Just in case I need to plan for some emergency measures to maintain CP.

Wow I guess I never thought much to use the Southwest Hotels for CP re-qual.

I just checked for a trip I have to Chicago next weekend and I could earn 33,000 CP qualifying points on my stay!!!

Not sure Ill do it since we have found that while CP is great, we havent used it to the full potential because my companion wants to re-qualify for his A List status so he ended up just buying most of his flights on his own.

Exclamation

Much confusion was introduced into this thread by trying to apply SWA Partner points rules to southwesthotels.com bookings. Points from southwesthotels.com bookings are not "hotel partner points."

To compound the confusion, Southwest Hotels (southwesthotels.com) IS listed as a "Rapid Rewards Partner" along with Radisson, Hyatt etc.

https://www.southwest.com/html/rapid...tel/index.html

I am still skeptical about southwesthotels.com bonus points being companion pass qualifying points.

Anybody know how long it takes for hotel bonus points to post? Might just test this to see if points are CP qualified.

Edit: the Points Plus Properties (the proper name for bonus hotel points?) i dropdown says "points will be added to your account within 8 weeks after your stay."

Well, there is a poster above that showed that they've posted as CPQP for them, and the WN rep confirmed that's intentional.

I've used it to top off for companion pass for several years, ever since Marriott transfers stopped qualifying. They usually take about five days after checkout to post, but one took almost two weeks for me earlier this year.

I know rocketmiles.com will award Southwest points and they count as CPQP.

Has anyone compared rocketmiles and southwesthotels with any regularity to see which awards more?

Rocketmiles charges a lot more for bonus points, or used to at least - unsure about base points because for my cheap stays it's just not enough points to convince me to book third party.
