We just stayed in an art museum, the Byblos Art Hotel, Villa Amista, outside Verona, Italy. Mr. Byblos of the Byblos clothing company is an avid art collector of contemporary art. Some years back, he purchased a 16th century villa to convert into a hotel/art gallery. It's fascinating, rather as if Tim Burton and Andy Warhol had been let loose on its interior. Staff calls the collection contemporary. I'd call it mod. Look for yourself. The hotel is a member of the Small Leading Hotels and is now partnered with Hyatt.

Loved Villa La Coste. Great art park and hotel. Also enjoyed the restaurant by Francis Mallmann.

Benesse House in Japan is also good but by no means a luxury hotel (the art makes up for it though!)

Has anyone stayed at 21C in Bentonville? If so, what are your thoughts?

All the cottages at Twin Farms, and the common areas, are furnished with an extraordinary art collection with works by Frank Stella, Milton Avery, William Bailey, Donald R. Wilson, Julie Herrnan, David Bates, Jasper Johns and more including American folk art. I was bedazzled and somewhat in awe.

I think Ellerman House in Cape Town would also qualify. Over 800 pieces of art in the hotel and a dedicated art gallery. They also offer complimentary private tours with an art guide for guests of the hotel.

I've stayed there. Good location extremely close to Crystal Bridges. Easy walk to the Square for restaurant options, plus a food truck court, although their restaurant The Hive is fantastic and definitely worth the visit. We had fun with the giant green penguins. You never know where they will appear. My visit was a few years ago but I'll see what pictures I can find. To add, I wouldn't consider it a luxury property but definitely nicer than other options in the area.

I'm considering 21c Museum Hotel in Chicago for a late summer stay. Any recent experience that might tilt me one way or the other?
