I have changed my flight from FRA-IAD nonstop to FRA-EWR-IAD, with B748 for FRA-EWR. I was surprised that UA 1K agent could not select the upper deck seats for me and my wife. We have the lowest business fare, P, if this matters. Will the upper deck seats open as flight nears? Or is it due to the lack of business travelers? Or the upper deck has been truly full.

I called LH again this morning and succeeded in getting a pair of upper deck seats. The waiting time was 20 min today. I hang up twice last night after 10 and 15 min waiting.

Not sure if this is this included in this thread. But is there a difference is service between the upper deck ( being smaller ) and the lower deck. I just think the 2 plus 2 vs. 2 , 2 ,2. makes a very big difference

IN LH business FAs are assigned blocks of 8-10 pax which they serve restaurant style, so there should be no difference.

Flew FRA-EWR on November 27th in economy. We had 42A, B, and C and I thought I would share a few notes:
- The IFE was painfully, maddeningly slow. For instance, when applying a filter to the movie list (English language movies), it took well over 60 seconds. Sometimes, when selecting a movie to play, it wouldn't start for more than a minute. I saw several passengers give up and resort to their personal devices.
- Bring your two prong adapter for the headphones.
- Food and beverage service did the front economy section first from front to back, then did the rear section from rear to front.
- No choice for main course, we were all served a veggie lasagna.
- I saw a couple passengers request a second alcoholic beverage and they were denied, sounded like it was corporate policy.
- The flight crew was excellent, very professional.

Is there a reliable cut-off time when rows 81-82-83 are released to the plebs? I'm on FRA-SFO this Saturday with a pretty decent 86K, but I'd love a forward K seat for better views of Greenland unobstructed by the wing/engines. At the moment all seats in those rows are still showing as occupied (which may be true, the flight seems to be pretty packed).
This is probably the most first-world question I've posted in my ten years on FT, but it's my first time on a 748 and I want it to be perfect
