Need to re-check in after upgrade?
This was a first for me… upgrade cleared overnight for an early AM flight. My boarding pass in app showed the new seat, but the one in Apple Wallet wouldn’t update, even deleting it and re-adding - it still showed the PC seat.
I showed up at the gate exactly 10 min after boarding started, got me BP scanned to board… and didn’t have a seat.
The gate agent had to re-seat me in 2A (the seat I saw in the app), and said “you’d never checked into your new seat, so the system gave it up. You have to re-check in when you’re upgraded or when boarding starts it thinks you’re not here and gives up your seat.”
Really? If that’s the case, it’s easy enough to do, but that sounds fishy. I was at the gate to board 20 min before flight time.

I would encourage all of you to report this "glitch" to AS customer service, so something can be done. The GA's won't likely recognize the problem and apparently will try to make up "new rules" to scold the customers.

I've had issues w/ the Apple wallet version of the card not updating to new seat after upgrades (even after re-checking in multiple times), but have thankfully not run into similar issues w/ losing the seat..

thatmikereed GA is incorrect. You do not need to re-checkin post-upgrade.
Seems like a bug, report it to AS CC.

always (always) (ALWAYS) screenshot a new BP with an upgraded seat -- I don't care which airline it is

I've had it happen to me before, but it has been a while. Once, I was first on the UG list with one person not checked in yet. Turns out he was at the gate but did not recheck in so the computer thought he was a no show and I was about to get this seat. Since he had his BP he "proved" he had checked in so he kept his seat and I remained back in main. The other time I just re-checked in to get my wallet BP to update.

Fwiw, an AS rep once told me "checking in" can be done as many times as you'd like and will often correct glitches and whatnot. The analogy she gave was that it's like rebooting a computer. That's always my first go-to when things like this come up and it usually works.

I have been upgraded to F often this year (thank you, Alaska!), and fortunately the worst that has happened to me is that for some reservations the BP Group in the iPhone Wallet didn't update from A to First Class, but the seat has always been correct.

Will the app, website, or kiosk, allow one to re-enter the check-in flow after already being checked-in? Or do you have to check-out first?

I often check in first with the app and then later go to my laptop to also print a paper boarding pass (and a PDF for my records). While the website knows that I am already checked in (shows the status), you apparently can’t just print the BP and have to go through the checkin flow again. There is no ”check-out” feature that I am aware of.

I know on the app and computer you can do it multiple times. Not sure about the kiosk but I'd imagine so. One time in particular AS was having an "off" day and my seat assignment kept getting lost and moving me from my upgraded seat in PC to a middle seat at the back of the plane. While on the phone with the agent she had me go in numerous times and check-in to see it what she was doing on her end held up. That is when I learned about this. I'm curious what if any others have experience with multiple check-ins?
