MQD Waiver- Statement date or Calendar Date
Do charges for the MQD waiver, on the Delta Reserve card, post in the year they are made or as of the statement closing date? My card closes on the 22nd so I'm wondering I can start spending on the 23rd, and have the MQD's count for next year

MQD Waiver
If the Medallion Qualification Dollar (MQD) thresholds are not met for a Qualification Year, you can still qualify for Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion Status if you have earned the required Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs) and make at least $25,000 in eligible purchases within that Qualification Year on your Eligible Card. If the MQD threshold is not met for a Qualification Year, you can qualify for Diamond Medallion Status if you have earned the required MQMs or MQSs and make at least $250,000 in eligible purchases within that Qualification Year on your Eligible Card. A Qualification Year is from January 1 to December 31 of a given year. The close of the Qualification Year is December 31, without regard to the time of the year that the credit card account is opened. This means that for the first year of Card Membership, the Card Member's eligible purchase period may be less than twelve months.

Any charges that "post" to your account before Jan 1st will count towards annual MQD Spend Waiver for the current year and not next year irrespective of statement close. There can be lags between transaction date and post date, but generally it is same day.

The specific answer is NO. The spend is Calendar year based and is not related to the statement closing date.

Sorry, complete novice question but tangentially related. My MQD waiver just hit my skymiles account and I am at 50k+ MQM so I thought I would be gold medallion. My account still shows just "skymiles member" but says my 2022 status is gold medallion. Is it just taking a bit to change current status to gold, or do I really have to wait until 2022?

Is there a strategy to be had for spending at the very end of this year applying to next years waiver?
As I understand it, spending on (for example) will get back-dated to the year of the charge clearing. But, I actually have a big purchase that may hit at the very end of this year, but I want to earn the waiver for 2023.
Is this possible?
