I find it hard to believe that it is an error that the carrier imposed surcharge is being charged - what does seem odd that it is charging the economy rate for a business award - I would be careful about checking too hard and finding the busines rate being applied

FWIW, Qantas don't charge YQ on transpacific award flights booked on AA flights between USA and Australia/New Zealand.

QF doesn't pass on fuel for TPAC flights as Serfty mentioned above.
QF never used to charge the fuel surcharge, my last TATL was the 'standard' USD5.60. If this change came in, it was not announced through any communication to members.
QF states it is a 'carrier' charge. They are not the carrier in this case. And the actual carrier doesn't impose the charge for awards (but they do for revenue tickets).
So on a number of fronts it is possible it could be an error.
Hence asking on FT

Trans Pacific is irrelevant since AA does not apply any carrier surcharges on flights to Australia - as such, there is no surcharge for Qantas to charge
That AA does not apply surcharges when it is issuing awards itself is also irrelevant since that is an AA policy to not apply surcharges ; Qantas does however apply surcharges
Qantas applies surcharges on its flights to its members wheareas when redeeming an AA award on QF, no surcharge is applied
I cannot see anything to suggest that there is an error , other than the amount being the economy amount rather than the business class amount

It looks like QF is applying the Y class surcharge to all bookings. Just looked at USA-Tokyo, AA charges $129 surcharge in all classes. This is mirrored by QF. So maybe the error is actually that QF hasn't picked up the higher surcharges TATL.
