Smile Small Airline Bathrooms

Many of you saw the lengthy story in today's WSJ about what we all know: toilet on legacy airlines, and likely others, are getting smaller on new Boeing and Airbus metal.

Apparently those making these new facilities keep the size secret. But, per the story, anyone with a ticket and a tape measure can learn the size of new and older Delta aircraft. So, let's so some measuring and posting here.

I will do my part starting next week.

This "news" is basically 5 years old. DL took delivery of it's first 737-900 on Sep 27, 2013 and there are many existing articles on the shrunken lavs.

Who cares?

Are the newer lavs tight? Sure. But they still work. Maybe you could argue they are claustrophobic, but if that is a real issue, a plane might not be the place for you.

The only really bad lav on DL planes IMO is the CRJ. Basically you can't even wipe. AA has apparently gone to a similar lav on their 737MAXs. Basically just about unusable. I read somewhere that there's a lawsuit to force DOT to finally comes up with regulations for single aisle aircraft. Apparently the rules were due awhile back, but only were issued for widebodies.

I can't imagine how 7 footers will manage to squeeze into the newly sized ones.

I don’t mind the FC lav on the 739 (yes it’s tight but not unbearable) but the sink is pathetic, you can only wash 1 hand at a time (barley). At least it’s not as bad as the new UA 739 MAX which has the water pressure set very high and sprays it everywhere.

Well if all of the US theme parks are painfully aware of how obese many of their customers are to the point where they have placed a "sample" seat and gently ask people to "try it out for size" so that they can actually go on the ride, perhaps the airlines can take a lesson here with "sizing" the lavatories for passengers who are too tall or round to fit-at least that way those passengers can utilize the real bathrooms before boarding.
Please do not get me started on suggesting they also do that with the airline seats too! We all know how badly that will go!

The A321 bathrooms and 737-900 bathrooms on Delta are pathetic....I'm shocked that airline passengers have no rights and Delta, Boeing and Airbus collude on this issue as well as other carriers.
It's shocking that passengers don't stand up for themselves in some way as the bean counters have eroded the quality of US air travel.
The flight attendants also hate the galleys in these 2 aircraft as well.
On the lavatories issue...
I really think it should be addressed by ADA Americans with Disabilities Act because larger passengers are in fact being discriminated against as well as handicapped /wheelchair assist passengers.

On a recent Delta flight we observed a very large passenger use the bathroom with the door open the whole time since he was unable to close it.
It was a 737-900 flight ATL-SFO and the First class bathroom at that. The same bathroom where your head hits the ceiling...

I think that all aircraft bathrooms should be larger and that every aircraft should have (1) oversize bathroom for larger people, handicapped people or for parents with small children.
Perhaps Delta can take the lead in this and bring a little comfort and quality back to air travel....

I had a short panic issue in the lav on a delta flight. Went in closed the door and slid the metal knob over to lock the door and the metal knob came off and fell somewhere in there.... thought I was stuck took a breath and found it and happy to see it was threaded so I put it back and all was good.

My issue is at 6-3 I cant stand up in the lav have to angle my head.... at least in most of them. It is what it is only go in there when I have to. No idea how two adults go in there for some action.

Yeah I avoid the narrow body WCs since I"m 6'5. Though it's like doing a yoga session back bend to pee so good for circulation! Woodford neat. No extra water! And hold it until the Skyclub!
