The hotel is now open. There is a grand opening ceremony today for the building with Los Angeles City officials. http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2017/...e-grand-opens/

Some photos of rooms (although the article is incorrect about the opening date) https://la.curbed.com/2017/6/20/1583...-hotel-opening

I will be staying here later this week. Booked a Club Intercontinental Suite. Will post pictures after my stay.

I've never stayed at an IHG property and when doing the online booking (did not use travel agent because does not appear to be a Virtuoso hotel), it asked if I would like to buy an Ambassador membership. Seems like one gets good benefits. Is it worth it?

yes, especially as you are not booking a base room. Ambassador on paid-qualifying stay has guaranteed +1cat room upgrade, and 4pm late checkout.

you can buy at Ambassador at hotel checkin too !

you'll also get a bogof certificate to book a weekens fri+sat or sat+sun with the second night free. Not quite the saving it appears as rate is based on flex nightly rate not advance rate.

If I buy the Ambassador now, can I add it to my existing reservation and get a confirmed upgrade??? I used a AAA rate...is that okay? It looks the next category is 1 Bed Club Intercontinental.

If you book through official IHG channel, online/ihg-app/hotel-direct on a qualifying rate then Ambassador bennies accrue. It is your IHG/Ambassador Elite status at time of checkin (not time of booking) that is important.

Buying Ambassador online (usd200) despite providing CC payment info is not an immediate process. Seems to be manually actioned and CC is charged and account updated to Ambassador is upto 2-4 working days.

If you buy Ambassador after a booking, IC hotels sometimes fail to spot the status change, and you may need to politely mention at checkin.
(or maybe if your AAA rate is flex and unchanged, rebook anew and cancel original AAA rate reservation once your IHG acct shows your Amb status?)

Ambassador room upgrade officially only occurs at checkin, so do not expect to see reservation modded to new room type weeks/days in advance.

Some IC's mod Ambassador bookings a day or so before arrival, others don't so don't worry if your reservation not modded on morning of checkin. Just ensure you know room cat booked and expected upgrade ie next room +1cat before checking in.

note (important)
Ambassador Status does not entitle you to foc Club Lounge Experience (t+c say "Ambassasors will not be given foc access", so Ambassador booking 1cat below club room, will get +1cat upgrade to club room w/o the lounge access that normally goes with said room.
If Ambassador initially books Club Room, Club access is kept when upgraded +1cat bto next room type.

What you say is absolutely correct, but highlights a painful flaw of the AMB benefits, as in most hotels a club room is simply the same room as one cat below + club benefits (and perhaps just one floor higher).

Hello, can you check in and out of an IC location via the IHG app?
