This thread examines BA's use of Amadeus' Theoretical Seating module. This kicks in at T-72 hours before departure, so this thread is primarily of interest to those travelling within the next few days.

This is classic curtain roulette, if you are sitting near to the curtain this will keep on happening. Unless you are with 72 hours of the flight, this isn't TS however, and if you are within 72 hours TS is only reallocating the curtain roulette passengers near to where they were.

By the way, what stops people from just going to the check in desk if they have time and asking to be seated at the best empty seat?
That's what I did in ATH this morning and it worked a treat for me.
Can this be done in LHR? Or will they say no at the check in desk.
I will most likely try to do this again in LHR on my return to ATH as I am sure the computer will put me in the row at the very rear of CE with my Blue status!

Ended up with the middle seat next to me showing as blocked in EF and it seemed to be correct as no-one sat there or, from what i could see, in other surrounding blocked seats.
My CW seat in an hour or so is now showing 7J as blocked when it was occupied earlier.
Not going to bother me that much but if the seat is free, then perhaps FLY does work on occasion.

OK, so TS only kicks in at T-72 hours. I'd be almost certain that what has happened is that they have flipped the aircraft type around, perhaps even ending up with the same aircraft they started with, and in the process some seat changes got made, and not restored. Alternatively there could be some passenger factor like wheelchairs or additional air mask for infants that may have come into play.

when did it show the seat blocked?
If you watch the seat blocking in the 2 hours before departure to checkin closes FLY is constantly changing the blocked seats as more people check in it has to decide which seats to free up.
If I check the seat map shortly after check in closes and the seat next to me is still marked as clocked then it usually has been.
This is usually12B on a A320 (exit row middle)
Not perfect though as sometime people as at the gate to be moved, or people sometimes sit in the wrong seat.

A bit after check in opened. Don't usually look at things a couple of hours out but may need to do so.
It did hold on my BOS flight so assumed the same.
Not to worry. Good seat, crew, clean plane (bar the side bins and the odd corner) and a great tourist view of all the London sights.

Booking in six days on 777 in economy. Currently in 29H (the seat with no body in front) but the two seats beside are taken. Think I should move to the exit row in 37 as there are no seats taken at all and then hope TS kicks in for a free seat next? The flight is Y9 B9 H9 etc. I have posted this in another thread but hoping for bit more traction here. Thanks
