New airplanes for me!
SEATTLE - Horizon Air today announced plans to acquire 25 new 70-seat Canadair Regional Jet Series 700 aircraft from Bombardier Aerospace, Ontario, Canada. Delivery is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2002. The order is valued at $580 million.
"The fast, quiet, and technologically advanced CRJ 700 will replace Horizons Fokker 4000 regional jets," said President and CEO George Bagley.
"After a lengthy study, we concluded that the CRJ 700 will be the optimum aircraft for our current jet routes and for future expansion," said Bagley. "The CRJ 700 will give us one of the youngest fleets in the sky and reflects our ongoing commitment to the highest levels of customer service," he said.
Horizon's CRJ 700s will be powered by two rear-mounted General Electric CF34-8C1 jet engines with a top speed of 530 mph and range of 2,283 miles. It is designed to be among the quietest of commercial jet airliners. State-of-the-art technology will be evident throughout the aircraft. The cockpit will be equipped with the Flight Dynamics "Fog Buster" Head-Up guidance system for superior reliability in foggy weather, a technology Horizon pioneered for regional airlines.
The CRJ 700's cabin features stand up headroom, 70 seats in a two-by-two configuration, overhead storage bins, restroom, and galley.
Horizon Air serves 38 cities throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California, British Columbia, and Alberta, and will carry more than four million passengers in 1998.
Bombardier Aerospace is the world's third largest civil aircraft manufacturer. Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc.
