Non-Technical discussion following the March 28 2016 software upgrade
Didn't want to clog up the issues thread with off-topic discussion, so felt a new thread was best.
Will FT be providing details on some of the changes that have been made? Or is it a bit of an easter egg hunt to see if we can find all of the user-facing changes?
Per the other thread, I see a mention of infinite scrolling on the mobile app (though it sounds like that's less than ideal because of all of the ads that are getting inserted now). I see some obvious things, like new icons (which weren't needed, and don't match the FT color scheme).

Perhaps I'm imagining it, but the list of subscribed threads with new posts on the MyFlyerTalk page seems more cluttered. I don't recall the "reply" link--which seems like a completely odd thing to have outside the thread--being there before. It's definitely not in the normal thread list for a given forum.

Why were the icons changed? Sure, we'll get use to them, but the other ones were perfectly fine and better matched the FT colour scheme.
Further, the emoticons are still not optimized for HD display (i.e. they still appear grainy
)

The new icon for multi-quoting is awful: the difference between toggled-on and toggled-off for any given post is nearly impossible to detect.

yeah, new icons seem awful, i guess it was only a matter of time until FT did what every other website i visit does, i.e. make pointless changes that make the site look worse. at least for now it seems that it just looks worse, rather than actually losing functionality

The new huge "notify moderator" icon is terrible. The huge View Mobile Site button at the bottom of the page is terrible. The new extra wide banner is terrible.
More cases of change for the sake of change, and non-designers trying to design websites.

I'm with you on the notify moderator icon...the design, color, and size make it quite distracting. My eyes keep getting drawn to it unnecessarily. The old icon was fine to begin with. The new one would be improved by just deleting the blue part which I think would make the red circle closer in size to the online status circle and not quite so distracting.

Sigh - normally I clear browsing history/cookies daily on my laptop, but evidently hadn't done so since the March 28th software update. I did this morning & now I see what everyone is complaining about.
It boggles my mind that IB can't create a decent mobile app & instead spends its resources on things like creating ugly/harder to read icons.
Cheers.
