Any way to check status of Visa online.

Is there any way to check the status of your visa app online, if you went to the embassy yourself? The only thing I can find is this website China Visa Application Service Center. And it doesn't seem to find anything.

Nope. The clerk at the consulate reviews your application before accepting it. If they didn't reject it right there, then it's a good bet that your visa will be available for pick up by the time stated on your receipt.

Assuming you applied in one of the countries where PRC visas are serviced by visaforchina.org (e.g. Australia, Canada, France, Germany), and you couldn't find a record of your status online, you should certainly give them a call.

I've been to the L.A. consulate for many years (and hopefully, now, I won't need to go back there for the next 9 years ). I've witnessed many times when people were turned away because their application was either incomplete or rejected outright by the clerk at the window. I myself always needed to present a handwritten addendum to my application because of my profession. However, once the application is accepted, it's pretty much a guarantee that the visa has been approved. I've never seen anyone being informed at the pickup window that their visa turned out to be rejected.

I second this from the chicago consulate as well. We've had visa applications taken by the consular staff, but noted that a different picture was required for pickup..they didn't li k e the background. .and last month, they requested a copy of the visa of a traveling companion..since that was the name on the hotel reservation at pickup. They do a good review of the documents when brought in, let you know what is required at pickup, and are true to their schedule for timing of pickup, payment method available, and any other pickup requests Had one year visas for the last 5 years, and just received year, so won't need to do this drill for a while.
