He could also imply that Southwest wants to start service to Canada. Also, I would not be surprised if Southwest also tried flights to Dublin from somewhere like MHT. AFAIK ETOPS is not necessary for that route.

'50 new destinations, compared to 96 today,' so he's not talking about city pairs.

Regrettably his remarks about '15 new destinations from Love Field' were a bit sloppy as he didn't specify these as new non-stop services. Is anything thus announced for DAL actually a new destination not already served by WN/FL?

I don't think that those 2 comments are talking about the same thing. I don't think I am confused. IN fact in light of the email, I think the reporter got it right.

I have no idea how they are going to accomplish it.

By becoming even more legacy-like and reducing frequency between current city pairs. Yet another devaluation, IMO.

Anything to Europe is almost certainly going to come from BWI. Something like PWM-SNN is doomed to failure.

Still, it would seem difficult to come up with 50 potential destinations, even including Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and Latin America and the Carribean. Unless... they are willing to change the formula and serve destinations less than daily and/or seasonally. Also, I wonder if there is any possibility that they would use SJU as a jumping off point to somewhere like Sao Paulo or Rio.

Look who has the highest margins right now? Airlines operating less than daily service. AirTran started doing that before WN took over. Look at how much F9 is expanding now with that formula.

Also can't ignore Spirit which has 25 nonstop destinations from FLL that follows this model. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Still wondering what the definition of 'destination' is... This statement doesn't sound like 15 brand new dots, but 15 new non-stop destinations out of Love:

"Dallas-based Southwest (NYSE: LUV) will add 15 new domestic destinations from Love Field in October and November but the opportunity exists for many more, he said."

That quote is addressed by the wiki in this thread.

Cities (5) that Southwest will serve non-stop from Love Field starting Oct 13:

Baltimore/Washington, MD.
Chicago Midway, IL.
Denver, CO.
Las Vegas, NV.
Orlando, FL.

Cities (10) that Southwest will serve non-stop from Love Field starting Nov 2:

Atlanta, GA.
Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Los Angeles, CA.
Nashville, TN.
New York LaGuardia, NY.
Phoenix, AZ.
Orange County, CA.
San Diego, CA.
Tampa, FL.
Washington Reagan National
"15 new domestic destinations from Love Field." Lines on a map. This is different than "50 new destinations" which are dots on a map.

Yes but that conflicts with longstanding Southwest practice which GK seems very reluctant to change. It also means going back to courting leisure passengers to lesser airports. Frequent Business Travelers are not going to risk a flight being cancelled and being stuck in some strange city for two or three days or having to pay walk-up prices on a legacy,

I think this is the key to what GK was talking about. It's not really 50 new destinations. But if say DAL gets a non-stop to SEA then that'll most likely count.

A bit of smoke and mirrors if you ask me.

WN clarified the 50 new destinations comment as dots on a map, not lines on a map. I don't understand how you are still confused about this.

The 15 Dallas destinations comment is city pairs, lines on a map, all to cities already served in the WN network, and has no bearing on the 50 destination comment.

Not confused. I just don't believe it. I think this 50 NEW destinations is akin to the nonsensical talk about Hawaii from GK so many years ago.

Well you sure come off as confused. You seem to think that adding a DAL-SEA non-stop (that's not in their plan FYI, if they'd gotten the two DAL gates, then they would've added DAL-SEA) would count in the 50 destination reference. It wouldn't. WN clarified this.
