Let's crowd source things that have counted towards travel redemptions that are not so obvious

Successful
  • NS Hispeed Train Tickets (nshispeed.com)
  • Capitaine Train Tickets (capitaine.com)
  • Eurostar Train Tickets (eurostar.com)
  • DB Bahn Trains Germany (bahn.de)
  • Super Shuttle (mixed, worked in SF when (billed SUPERSHUTTLE EXECUCARS), worked in Boston (SUPERSHUTTLE BOSTON), failed in LA (SUPERSHUTTLE)
  • rail europe on travelocity
  • New York City MTA Subway Cards
  • Boston MBTA Charlie Card reload & Commuter Rail passes & tickets
  • San Francisco Clipper Card public transit (autoload from website)
  • Norwegian Cruise Line purchase made from telephone order from vacationstogo.com

  • Southwest Early Bird Check-in (billed separately from airfare charges)
  • cheaptickets.com hotel
  • Amtrak train ticket >$25 (ALB-NYP)
  • Amtrak train ticket >$25 (unknown destinations)
  • Buying Lifemiles from Avianca
  • Primetime Shuttle (Worked from LAX-SNA)
  • Orbitz.com purchase
  • Priceline
  • Las Vegas Show Booked through hotel
  • Hotels.com
  • WMATA (Washington DC Metro) Weekly pass

Successful - Plus Only
  • Uber
  • NYC Taxi
  • Empire State Building tickets
  • SF Taxi (coded as "YELLOW CARD SERVICES I")

Unsuccessful (please mention the amount redeemed - important as anything under $25 cannot be reimbursed)

  • Amtrak (possibly due <$25 charge)
  • IHG points and cash hotel redemption
  • www.b-europe.com (SNCB rail)
  • Description: ZERVE *CA WHALES Merchant Category: THEATRICAL PRODUCERS (EXCEPT MOTION PICTURES), TICKET AGENCIES...Tickets to whale watching tour purchased over the phone.
  • Car2go
  • Hostelbookers.com deposit (maybe the charge which is >$25 will count?)
  • Thello train (France-Italy night train, codes as rail-freight)
  • Trenitalia (both online and in stations, posts as rail-freight)
  • Brazil airline GOL booked online codes as DIRECT MARKETING/DIRECT MARKETERS--NOT ELESWH ..
  • Blue Water Rafting. Merchant category "Recreation Services -- Not elsewhere classified"
  • Parking at IAH (Houston Intercontinental - on airport) -$76 (PARKING LOTS AND GARAGES)
  • Parking at SNA (John Wayne Airport)
  • Skyjump at Stratosphere Hotel LV $150 (01/14) - not charged by hotel.
  • Gotobus.com Long Distance Buses, ~$100
  • Global Entry

Don't forget travel purchase needs to be > $25 charge for 2,500 mile redemption
Partial redemptions are possible - however you cannot redeem against that charge again. So if you have a $500 charge and you spend 40K points against it, you cannot redeem 10K points for the remaining $100 of that charge.

I got a US Airways card with them on about January 1st of this year, so again, 6 months would be in 3 weeks. Should I wait, just go for it now, or will it not make a difference?

Do my other new cards make a difference? I have quite a few in the last 6 months. I don't know too much about Barclays.
6 months from January is sometime in July, In my personal experience with Barclays they have looked at ALL cards I have and even the last 12 mos.
Last Recon conversation I had in January agent stated the number of cards I had and wanted to know why I wanted another USair card ( would have been my 2nd)

Sorry, I misspoke. I have a bunch of cards in the last 6 months, I'm just trying to figure out if it means 6 months from my last Barclays card, or card in general. I've been on the Citi Exec card rampage, so I have quite a few more than I normally would in the last 90 days. Last AOR was January, got the US card. I had opened two new credit cards a month and about 3 months before that one. Should I be waiting or could I maybe be okay?

Been trying to recon this application

If they're reporting on TU. They'll grill you a good one.

i read on another forum that u can cash out barclay points at the 2.2% rate by buying a refundable ticket from southwest. then using the points to cover the cost. and lastly refunding the tickets. has anyone have any knowledge on this or something similar?
if the money is refunded back into the barclay CC, would the points also be refunded as well??

Shot down on recon.

He said way too many accounts in too little time.
Almost half tempted to close my other Barclay line seeing as I don't use it anyways.

I only have 4 new cards in the last year, and I'm still hesitant. I'm kind of leaning towards just staying with points/miles until next year and then downgrading my CSP to CS, then getting the Arrival.

I always hate recon, Barclays specifically. You're rarely able to get them to reconsider.

Yes, I know people have, myself included, but it's more rare than Chase, Citi or Amex.

Same for my wife. She only had 2 inquiries on TU but had another 3 inquiries on the other bureaus and Barclays still declined her an Arrival card. They're tightened up big time, even more than the Club Carlson cards.

I even threw out the idea of closing my other card in hope of approving this one.

Nope.

AoR had ~8 cards.
He complained that I gained a high amount in credit in short time.
My bad... Want me to ask the creditors for CLD's? They're the ones that granted me X amount of credit line.

Last Barclay app was ~6 months ago.

Did he mention any other numbers?

How many cards in the last 12 months?

Nope.
Even asked why I don't use the my current Barclay card. I told him I've been using my CSP card for all my travel. I mentioned that I applied for the card to put my travel expenses on it. (Legitly was going to be putting my travel on it. Especially since it's starting to be summer time.)

He commended me for great history with the cards I have and being fiscally responsible. But still couldn't because of the amount of cards. Thanks anyways. I'll use my CSP more I guess.

12 cards in 12 months. AoR had 8.
