That's a bit dramatic. Have done this route a couple of times and found the seats perfectly adequate.

Always 33G?

Seatmap shows 33G for my dates with Cirrus J, Y+ & Y.

Am I likely (or guaranteed?!) to get the nice new J seats?

Almost a certainty provided the route continues to be flown. If CX Indian flights get them then Maldives certainly would - MLE is almost as far as BOM.
