congrats on every country!

I still have quite a bit to go, hopefully up to 140 by my 35th birthday (late 2014)... ... but to be honest .. there are some places that I just have no desire to visit, even for a tick on the list ... or are prohibitively expensive to justify a trip there.

Also, I try not to 'visit' a place for a half day just so I can count it

Interesting that your flightmemory link shows only 85 countries. I assume that the difference is places that you've just driven to.

In the comparisons that you can get with a premium FM membership, they list one person with 208 countries, vs. an average of just 4 for all FM members. I have to confess that, in FM, I've fabricated a couple of short flights to countries that I've only visited on a cruise. For example, I didn't really fly into the Monaco heliport.

Total: 203
But I understand it is a matter of personal choice.
Without going into a further senseless list of territories/lands/atolls etc.

Why not transdniester? They've been printing their own currency, enforcing their own borders and visas for around 15 years now.

Its very hard to fly into Liechtenstein And most European countries in general, I've visited by land/rail.

But also, I have driven overland from Rio to Lima, as well as Nairobi to Cape Town - so anything in between will not have flown into on FM.

I am also counting these as 'countries' on my list (although I am sure some will disagree): If it checks/stamps a passport, it goes on the list I say.

Taiwan
Palestine
Cook Islands
Hong Kong
Macao
New Caledonia
Guam
Gibraltar
North Cyprus

You're right. Messed up the list. I'll be covering Moldova next Oct., so a side trip to Transnistria is on the list.

For Liechtenstein the easiest airport is ZRH, then 2 trains to Sargans and a bus out of the railway station.

I found more challenging Andorra. Been there 2 weeks ago and the area was still under a white cap. From TLS took abt 4 hours driving over the Pyrenees. Tiring but definitely scenic route.

Andorra and Moldova are my only 2 European countries left.

Andorra I just find too expensive and inconvenient to get to, just to say one's been. I'll probably end up in Moldova faster than Andorra.

PS.. Wales and Scotland are NOT countries.

Plus hotels in Andorra don't come cheap.
But if you're after some shopping, worth to pay a visit.
Of course Wales and Scotland shouldn't be considered as a separate countries.

If you're going to include Transdniester you probably need to add on South Ossetia, Abkhazia and potentially Nagorno-Karabach as well.

Personally, I do UN member states plus the Holy See, Kosovo plus Taiwan which I think is the most conservative "count". I also count in the Traveler's Century Club format for lols.

I like this list for countries and dependencies, its more liberal than UN obviously, but nothing near the laughing stock that TCC is.

I'm somewhere in the 70's or 80's, but there are heaps of countries I have no desire to visit outside of going just for the sake of going. Not sure it's worth investing the time just to say I've been everywhere.

I like the UN list (plus Vatican City obviously) of 194, and think it's a no-brainer to add Kosovo and Palestine since they're both recognized by at least half of UN members...so to me that makes a "must do" list of 196.

There's another 19 places I think are pretty independent, based on independent border controls, currencies, judiciaries, and parliaments:

Abkhazia, Aruba, Cayman Islands, Cook Islands, Curacao, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Isle of Man, Jersey, Macau, Nagorno-Karabach, Niue, Somaliland, South Ossetia, Taiwan, Tokelau, Transdniester, Turkish Cyprus, Western Sahara

So that list of 215 is what I'm working off currently
