BA 1: LCY - JFK mini trip report

I nkow this has been covered before but I didn't have all answers to my questions so will give it a shot

My main reason was: the TPs as I'm running for GGL

My concerns:
. airport is farther than Heathrow, living in Fulham
. addtional time (if I really want to rush into security in the US I take the 8.30 am flight from London and there always has been minimal queue). Obviously landing from 2pm onwards can be a nightmare (max. was 3h)
. addtitional bumpiness in the flight (small aircraft and 2 landings and takeoffs)
. Lack of privacy of the seat (I love those 62As...)

This is what I would say
. travel airport was a breeze..maybe not all days like that but the timing seems quite right to avoid jams. Fulham - LCY 45 mins.
. Airport is nice, security is done in 3 mins..the lounge is non existent really but the atmosphere in the airport is relaxing.
. Boarded on time (easier with few pax) and were in the plane 20 mins before schedule
. I did all I could to sit alone..checking online where my seat was etc... and moving it when someone would checkin...I opted for 8A in the end...and whils 5 a -7A where free and same on the other side I ended up with a passenger next to me....grrhh who choses the aisle seat next to the toilet? and if BA allocates shouldnt that be the last seat to be allocated? anyway at least I could test the 'privacy' thing
. Crew was good (in top tier crews I flew with)
. Plane feels very private and quiet
. The first leg to Shannon goes quickly (you dont receive your ipad though) and the shannon formalities are done very quickly and with a much bigger smile than in the US. Remember to keep your boarding pass (i tend to throw them away as soon as I board)
. Overall plane is very quiet, classy and the flight was very smooth
. After Shannon you get your ipads..good screen, latest films, nice...
. The Seat: yes not that private BUT the seat is actually very good. It is or appears wider than in CW and the legs part is much more robust so much closer to F and a better sleep in my opinion (also it takes 20 mins more on return - i always think the return is too short for a good sleep). The privacy is less good for sure than CW window seat but in the end it didnt bother me. All in all I'd say the window seats are marginally worse than a UD window seat but better than all other CW seats and the aisles seats are much better than any other aisle seat in CW.
. Service over all is better
. food was nice, marginally better than CW
. Arrival at JFK, 3 mins and out waiting for a taxi.

Bottom line:
will I do it again: for sure if a) TP are 210, or b) I work in London in the morning and cant take the 8.30 flight, c) to return to city for sure

I liked it... BA well done.

Thanks for the mini-TR. Quick question, what's it like getting out of the window seat with the PAX in the aisle seat sleeping?

fingers crossed for some expansion of this very good sounding longhaul service ex LCY. Who knows where or when, but if its popular and good, why not !

Many thanks for a great brief report - sums it up well. Good advice about not losing BP - last time I was on it, this wasn't really checked on boarding at SNN but if there was a stickler purser...!

Unlucky you didn't get a spare seat next to you.

Good cartoon; thanks jmpawson.
