Hilton Fort Lauderdale Airport (2nd one) {US-FL} (no longer Honors)
Hi All,
I did not hear the news this morning. Why they want to be demolish to start construction new south runway expansion in FLL. I found out that I read the newspaper today. What is exactly going on about Hilton Hotel on Griffin Rd & I-95. If they try to fought the court and if they will win the rights to kept Airport Hilton Hotel for a long time. It was almost too impossible for me.

They've been talking and fighting this runway extension for years down there. Who knows if this will actually be the time they get it going. Will be interesting to see that elevated runway going over top of US 1 though.

The City of Dania, the last holdout opposing the runway expansion dropped their opposition earlier this year. Engineering is being completed now and construction begins in early 2012.

I remember we were stay at Airport Hilton for 1 night when we landed in FLL back on May 2007. After the day where we are relocated to new Diplomat Resort & Spa Hotel on Hollywood Beach. We were spent there for 3 nights at new Diplomat Hotel.

Hilton FLL Airport - Last Days - Beware
Hey everyone,
I wanted to pass on some information separate from the trip report thread for this property. The Hilton FLL is being razed in favor of the new runway at FLL. The official date for closure is April 1 and this news has been known for a long time.
The issue I ran into last week was that they have already taken the parking ramp down forcing all to use valet at $22 per day. It allegedly has been on their website but for many of us business travelers that book through 3rd party corporate sites, this was not visible to me and having stayed there many times, I assumed the ramp was still being used.
Not only is the cost for valet high, the volume of cars makes getting out in the morning a challenge due to delays. I waited up to 30 minutes for my car last week.
It will be sad to see this old property go but with the upcoming demolition, they have really let it go downhill. Fitness center is almost empty due to them not replacing old equipment and all other maintenance is non-existent. Because of this, the desk team is getting ravaged with complaints and have mailed it in. They don't care about anything or any requests you have at this point.
As a corporate property, I would think they would try to keep standards and operations up to par even with the upcoming demolition.
I will not be staying here any longer.

Yeah, I stayed here last night.
It took about an hour to get from the airport to the hotel using the shuttle. The shuttle driver was stoned, the shuttle had been t-boned and in obvious disrepair, my bathroom door had a hole punched in it, the entire floor smelled like smoke, the TV was a CRT from 1996, and service was non-existent.
Everyone is in mail-it-in mode marking time until April 1.
I wish all the best to the staff who are losing their jobs, but damn DO NOT STAY HERE.

Like I said, as a corporate property, I cannot believe Blackstone has not stepped in to keep it up to standards despite the 4/1 demise.

Unreal. What floor were you on? Did they at least put you up on the top 2 'HHonors' floors? Believe it or not, they are actually better than the lower floors.

AFAIK for larger hotels Rooms control assigns rooms around a week in advance. If you book closer in than that you tend to get whatever is left.
