FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: Canarsie
This discussion is unique on FlyerTalk in that it allows members who visit the Delta Air Lines SkyMiles forum to publicly comment on the decisions and actions of its moderators even though Rule 18 on FlyerTalk specifically prohibits doing this:

Discussion Of Moderator Actions

Moderators value your private views and feedback related to their actions and duties. You may submit appropriate feedback to moderators by private message or e-mail. Do not post comments about moderator decisions or actions, or about the work of moderators, unless a moderator has invited members to post feedback in a particular thread.

Any concerns about the actions of a moderator should be directed exclusively and privately to the [email protected].
The moderators of the Delta Air Lines SkyMiles have learned a lot from your input through this discussion; and it has also served to resolve issues over the years often in a humorous manner.

Despite the existence of this discussion, the moderators of the Delta Air Lines SkyMiles still request that you first address any questions or concerns pertaining to the decisions and actions of the moderators via private communications before posting them publicly, as most issues can usually be resolved this way. Please use this discussion sparingly and only when necessary.

Thank you.

Yes, the FT'er posted the question in the wrong forum (I'm guessing they should've posted it in a hotel forum) or it was a joke, but really? The OP joined in May of this year, and has all of 60-70 posts. What message does that sort of comment send to him?

The comment seemed rather snarky, and I'd question how willing the OP will be to post again.
Actually with the exception of 4 posts on the AF board all of this member's 67 posts have been made on the DL board. Therefore IMHO this thread was intentionally posted here.

The last time I checked it was not April 1st, so I stand by my remarks as this thread offered nothing of value to our community.

Sometimes snark works. In this case, it did.

So, what you're saying is that it's ok to be a jerk to others, at least if you're a moderator?

+1 No different than this http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...mond-help.html thread. No harm in having some fun!

I took the OP of that thread to be a joke laughing at all the silly requests we see for compensation on FT. I got a good smile out of it.

Anyone on the board that knows me will tell you that I happen to have a really good and often at times sick sense of humor. Over the years you will see countless posts from me like that.

There is a time and place for everything and when a moderator takes action it may not just be based on the one post in question. Let's just leave it at that.

If it reminds the poster that this is a general interest Delta + SkyMiles forum, and that FlyerTalk TOS call for users to browse and search before starting new threads, it has served a useful purpose. The Mod showed some flair, IMHO.

Did the Mod have more than the minimum 15 pieces of flair is the real question.

The original thread made me chuckle as did the moderator's remark. I read the entire thread as being in jest.

Nah. The search engine is rather crap if you ask me. It's not the worst I've seen but not the best. And here is where it goes wrong. The moderators combined 2 threads about the DL MQM purchase. Thread #1 with about 30 posts (guesstimate) was titled "Hold off on doing that MR...." and the other thread with about 5 posts was called "Delta Announces MQM purchase Program".

Now if you did a search for "MQM Purchase" you might find the second thread. Except the moderator combined it into the first thread, with the headline that is harder to find in a search for threat titles.

I never really understood moderation except to weed out the clearly obvious junk threads, spam, profanity etc. Threads will always take on their own identity.

An observation

I understand the sentiment that led to closing this thread to honor its originator:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...l-version.html

However, in doing so, this will ensure that it inevitably scrolls down and out of site, into obscurity.

Yes I agree. It is a good, relevant subject and a good thread and it should stay. IMO it shows more respect to the OP to let the members of the forum enjoy the thread as long as it is active.

I am the Mod who closed the Thread. I stand by my decision. If you wish more clarification, feel free to send me a PM. I will not discuss my decision in this forum.

Why close any threads? Is FT charged by the post?

I understand blocking offensive, insulting, discriminatory posts... but who can decide when a subject has been discussed enough??
