hideaways near Zurich

We will be going to Zurich around the Christmas holidays and would like to find a nice quiet place in the countryside to spend a few days. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

+1

We loved the spa wing too... we were actually offered an upgrade to Classic Suite in the old wing but much preferred the new wing.

Would return to the Dolder Grand in a heartbeat !

Badrutt's Palace in St Moritz

For Christmas, head up to St. Moritz which is only a few hours away. Recommend Badrutt's Palace.

Dolder Grand is well and good but its really Zurich albeit off centre ......but to get away a bit and still be back to Zurich in a decent heartbeat i would suggest you try ....VALS therme hotel ........in VALS ...via Chur....great waters ie pools great food great middle of nowhere location ......and the hotel can be buzzing ....

be sure to book the newest rooms with the best views...

Just be careful what you book as some of the superior rooms have a forrest view towards up the hill while deluxe rooms ares south facing with views over zurich and balconies.
Junior suite deluxe all have balconies as well in both wings!!

I suggest you the following resorts which arde defenitly much better than staying in Zurich:
  • Gstaad Palace Hotel;
  • Lenkerhof Alpine Resort;
  • Riffelalp Resort Zermatt.
All of them have a unique atmosphere, are just a few hours away from Zurich and are in most beautiful alpine surroundings!
Enjoy

Thanks for all the suggestions re Zurich hideaways. I have also heard of the Bellevue Palace in Bern, although hardly qualifies as a "hideaway".

Maybe the Panorama Resort &Spa at Feusisberg qualifies as hideaway near Zurich:

It does have a great view of Lake Zurich.

Two places that come to my mind... (in addition to The Lodge, which is fabulous) - never been there, but they are on the to-do list. Note that none of these is really close to Zurich, you'd probably have to drive at least 1.5 hrs. to get the hideaway feeling.

Crans Ambassador in Crans-Montana, which will open in December and looks spectacular
Guarda Val in Lenzerheide
Hotel Paradies in Ftan, Engadin

Another option I would consider is driving to Lech (Austia), a beautiful little ski villiage. It's only 2 hrs from Zurich and has several excellent hideaway hotels.
