One thing I am finding that seems to be helpful for securing that UA UDU.. avoid flights to SFO. I'm at 72% success and every fails is either going to or coming from SFO...

I would say reciprocal benefits are not happening until the merger is settled - and if UA goes with US, there won't be any reciprocal benefits like they planned.

Domestic Mileage Upgrades

Will domestic mileage upgrades fit into the new reciprocity between CO/UA? I've not seen anything specifically saying yes or no on either carrier's site or in the original thread on this subject.

My suspicion is that these might just fit into the *A mileage upgrade system (as I would assume they do today), but will it be different domestically after "mid-2010"?

While the answer hasn't been publicly stated odds are that mileage upgrades will be part of the reciprocity just like EUAs/UDUs will be. You can currently use the *A upgrade program on the flights but it isn't as good a deal as the "native" upgrade options that each carrier offers.

I disagree. I don't think that CO/UA would have announced them if they didn't intend to provide them.

They didn't intend on merging when they announced them. If they merge, recip benefits would likely be delayed until other more important issues are worked out.

If UA ends up merging with US, then I'd expect the recip program to get cancelled until they decide what to do about US.

What exactly do you mean by 'until they decide what to do about US'?

I doubt that any merger with US will scuttle CO's intended plan to forge closer ties with UA. That arrangement is about making CO more money and increasing CO shareholder value...or presumably CO wouldn't have entered into that agreement to begin with. Certain perceptions about US and the quality of its product (or lack thereof) among FTers (among others) would have little to do with it. IMHO. It's about making money.

For the same reason they re-evaluated their relationship with NW and DL after those two merged out from under them. Of course they will re-evaluate what cooperative options are available with US management, even under a United brand. Those things don't just automatically transfer over.

No dates yet...

Hi JetAway, the short answer is that we're still working on a date. There were a few major OnePass program changes that were announced with the "mid-2010" timeframe - specifically System-wide Upgrades, Presidential Platinum Elite, and reciprocal Elite upgrade benefits with United. All three programs are well into development, and are still planned to launch this summer. We don't, however, have specific dates yet.
