Question Dual citizen travelling to Israel on US passport?

I am a US citizen who was born in Israel and has Israeli citizenship as well. I am travelling to Israel next week and getting my Israeli passport will be inconvenient. Is there any issue with entering Israel with my US passport? Certainly this isn't an issue normally, but considering that I am also an Israeli citizen, will there be an issues that you are aware of?

Thanks!

Technically. you can not enter Israel on anything except an Israeli passport.

I can not swear to whether or not this will be enforced.

It most probaly won't be enforced on the way in, but is usually enforced on the way out.

So beware! as they might keep you stuck in the country.

If your name is the same on both passports it will be enforced.
(When you will give your us passport in the passport control they will ask nice
for your israeli one).

Its not that they are going to arrest you..., But if you have the israeli one
make the biometric one, It will ease your in/out process...

I think there is some kind of data sharing between the countries
(For example my french passport is linked to the israeli one in the US system,
As they know i have to citizenship)

My friend is a Delta flight attendant who was in the same position.

They let her in, but would not let her exit. To make a long story short, because she was a working crew member, she was given a one time only dispensation. However, she was sternly warned that the next time she entered Israel on her U.S. passport, she would not be permitted to go through passport control to board the return flight to the U.S.

not a good idea

israelis will check and will require you to get an israeli passport to leave. if you are an israeli you should enter on that passport. it is a basic rule of dual nationality. a lot of sketchy guys use this ruse for shady dealings and the israelis ARE concerned about it.

There was an article in the JP I believe about the terrible problems dual nationals have traveling to Israel without their Israeli passports.

Since not an El Al-specific question, will move to the appropriate geographic forum.

Not knowing your age or whether male / female but if you are close to military age (on either side of the age range) that will complicate matters much more if you have not completed the paperwork for a deferral of service.

As you were born in Israel, you are an Israeli citizen with dual US citizenship, as opposed to the way you stated it. I would suggest a quick visit to the nearest Israeli consulate or embassy if possible. While they most likely will not be able to produce a passport in the time frame you noted, you might get paperwork showing the process has been initiated and you could pick up the new passport in Israel while you are there - it's a 2 - 3 business day process if you ask for the "quick" service.

As mentioned, you can only enter and leave Israel on an Israeli passport, just as you can only exit and enter the US with an American passport.

How good are they these days? They picked up my name on my American born sons student visa application, and made him get an Israeli passport.

As was mentioned, they will let you in, they will not let you out. This is accurate.

They are experts in that.

Next thing, they are going to make him do his army duty, (I personaly fail to understand why an American citizen born in the US, should be forced to take an Israeli passport and then be forced into the army, only because his father holds a Israeli passport, even he hasn't lived in Israel for 45 years).

My friends when applying for their students visa's used to put a fake name as their father's name, in order to avoid that problem (but they have to be careful and have a full story, because they can decide to question you, what was your grandfather's name Etc.)

Question Dual citizen too/born in Israel

I applied to the Israeli consulate in the US for an Israeli passport renewal for a Spring '14 visit. Have not been back in 30 years. I've been given an ID number and told that I must get papers/passport in Israel (not in the States). I understand that I can enter with my American passport but cannot exit with it. Has anyone had this experience? Any trouble getting a passport/travel papers at the Ministry of the Interior in Israel? How does one get it in 2-3 days? Can I be detained?

Thanks for any information!

You are not providing enough information. How old were you when you left? Were you subject to military service? Did you serve?

The fact that they refuse to issue you an Israeli passport stateside suggest to me that this situation is serious enough that you need to consult an Israeli attorney.
