Who: Youthinasia, a WoW Gold Farmer

When: I requalified for 1K in mid-October flying PHX-ANC in F.

How: Loads of flights to/from Alaska to the east coast; approximately 20k EQMs earned from the DEQM promo

Where: ANC, SFO, LAX, PHX, ORD, WAS, BOS, LHR

Why: Business. With UA's shutdown of all ANC ops, I wouldn't have bothered requalifying for 1K had I not been so close as a result of the DEQM promo.

What: I'll be flying CO in 2009 and using my UA u/gs once CO is in *A.

When: Made 1P I think on a standard BOS-IAD trip to see the family.
How: Typical years I used to fly many business trips to Asia which kept me a 1K. Not much business travel this year. But got many miles in February on the CMB-JFK C fare, plus BOS-SIN and PEK-BOS upgraded fares on a crazy almost RTW work/vacation trek. No DEQM, No Chase EQM, will end the year at ~75k EQM, not close enough for me to make a 1K MR worthwhile.
Where: BOS, IAD, SFO, NRT, SIN, CMB, DPS, MEL, AKL, BKK, FCO, PEK, LAS, LAX, YYZ, PHL, MYR, EZE, GIG, GRU, MIA, CLT, PVD, MGW, PIT
Why: I love traveling and seeing new places. After sitting in C/F the first time I never wanted to go back. So I've worked the system as much as possible to get me up front. Plus educated many, many co-workers, who now travel more than me, how to do the same.

When: UA 1k October 2008; Frontier Ascent 12/16/08; Alaksa Gold Dec 1
How: Segs not miles, but then I hit miles and segs on UA. Early year was off to a fast start, summer slowed way down with the economy, fall leapt ahead then slowed and for some reason December has been crazy! I see reduction in travel next year, but not enough to lose 1K, but maybe enough to bump myself down a notch on Alaska to VIP not Gold.
Where: Business, Mostly US, western US; Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands, Canada.
Why: Better chance of standby if I'm higher level in airline program; better upgrade opportunity, though with UA change in 2009 - this will not be a happy travel to PAY to use my miles to upgrade!
What: Similar plan but will be interesting to watch the airline mergers to see who wins my rear end sitting in exit row aisle 10D

Who: livitup - IT Project Manager, based out of IAD.

When: Technically December 6 I made 1K, though I am still a 1P on .bomb because some straggling LH flights haven't posted yet. (But I'm burning up the FAX line to MP!)

How: 6 Trips in C to BRU for work (routed thru FRA/MUC for an extra ~1500 EQM each, thanks to FT). 1x Work Transcon, DEQM DO/MR to HNL and DEQM family trip to ANC. MR to LAX, killer sameday BWI-DEN-SEA-ORD-BWI MR, and a couple family trips domestically.

Where: See above. Roughly 50% domestic (mostly trans or mid-con) and 50% to BRU.

Why: Twofold. First, the 100% RDM Bonus. I want to take my whole family on a premium vacation to EU or Asia, and finance the whole thing with MP miles and SPG points.

Second, I feel at home in the air. I simply love to fly. I won't go into it here, but I feel a connection to a departed loved one when I am in the air.

What: I am basically guaranteed 1P with my work travel. April is bringing a new baby, so I don't think there will be as much personal travel this year. Basically, my 1K dreams hinge on DEQM promos. This is the first year I will make 1K, and I don't expect to repeat the feat next year, though I'm always willing to fly.

Who: Anonymiss_Traveler (IT Business Consultant)

When: 1K December 08 wooooo hooooooooo!

How: Most of my travel was for work, used M+ Visa Choices option for EQM, one short MR.

Where: ATL, ORD, IAD, DCA, PHL, CLT, LHR, FRA, CDG, CMH, DFW, CMH

Why: I'm young & single, my parents are still living & it feels absolutely awesome to be able to take them along on some of my trips. So accruing miles means a lot to me...we've been able to see places that we only "dreamed about seeing" with my miles. Plus I think they like bragging to their friends.

What: My plan is to keep working & flying (of course). I have a strong feeling that I'll be doing mostly domestic travel this year, but hope to sneak in an international trip or 5 (lol) to LHR, MEL, SYD, or CDG.

Who: PTahCha, in the management consulting industry, now I have a desk job with the same company.

When: 1P right around August, 1K on 12/22/08 for the second time by a queaker (666 EQM over )

How: 60% work related travel, 30% personal due to our consolidation of households from LA to CT. 10% from DEQM promotion in the middle of the year.

Where: lots of p.s. flights (both SFO and LAX), but also ended up in DTW*, CLT, DFW, MSP*, IAD, SAN, PDX, SEA. Was in Costa Rica, but flew on CO instead. So yes, I'm one of those Domestic-only 1K's.

(*) new cities that I visited for the first time.

Why: Hitting 1K was purely acciental - wasn't planning on it, but a sudden surge in travel in Q4 made reaching 1K within reach, and went for it. I really want that 3 *** on the manifest so I get my first choice in meals. Oh, the CR-1, SWU, and drink chits don't hurt either.

What: No plans on how to renew the status - work-related travel will be down to nil due to our new internal travel policy (basically, no travel). Planning on aiming for 1P with more transcon / p.s. flights.

Who: ssh - Business coach and consultant, speaker, journalist, author

When: Dec 30, FRA-IAD, last trip of the year...will hit 1K for the second time.

How: 80% work, 20% leisure. A few from DEQM and Chase.

Where: ORD/PIA (x20 - work), TPA (x5), SFO, LHR (family trip), FRA (MR)

Why: As a consultant and business coach, I'm on the road a fair bit. I also spend time with my own business coach in Tampa. Pay the family with a trip a couple times a year.

What: 1K for the second time in as many years (750k lifetime). Will likely make another run at it in '09, especially if I take another trip or two to Rwanda as I did in '07.

When: I think I made 1K back in July
How: Most of my travels are worke related. I changed job this year, and also moved to NYC for six months. I did weekly NYC(office)-DC(Home) on UA/US/DL for six months. I moved to Beijing during the fourth quarter in 2009 and flown a few transpac in the last three months of the year.
Where: DCA, IAD, LGA, JFK, MIA, FLL, PBI, MCO, BOS, ORD, LAX, SFO, CLT, LHR, AMS, BRU, FRA, PEK, PVG, HKG, SZX, SIN
Why:I love to fly and see the world
What: I am confident that I will make 1K in 2010, but I will not fly as many flights or BIS as I did in 2009.

Judging from the Q1 results of various airlines, it appears travels are down significantly, and from what I have seen, companies are not paying employees to fly in the front cabins as they used to.

How has everyone's travel pattern changed in the current economic climate?

Personally, I am way down. I don't think I will do the 110+ BIS full fare flights and the 250K+ travel I did in 2008.

It is strange that I will make 1K by the first weekend in June with only 2 1/2 roundtrips on UA. One cheapo transpac RT to earn DEQM and one full fare C RT for work will net me over 50 (triple EQM). Not sure what to make the easy path to 1K this year. If I am lucky, I may have 50K BIS in B fare or above to hopefully quailfy to GS next year.
