For selfish reasons I am very happy as someone who lives 15 blocks (Can walk to Love), between this, new Green Line, new high dollar condo development and new Parkland our little Tudor home will continue to rise.

The birds are chirping and all we need is a Love Admirals Club and my life will be the best of all possible worlds.^

It's also interesting to read the first post here and AA's response in above article and see how AA PR machine has changed its approach.
C'mon Orange line to DFW! (No, I'm not holding my breath that it will be completed in 2013 as currently scheduled.)

Maybe no more forty mile hike to get to the AA gate(s)?
There is also an article in Dallas Morning News business section about same topic. I do think the updates to Dallas Love and how they affect AA operations should be put on a new thread. This thread was a debate thread about AA/WN's involvement at DAL, the community, and what was best for everyone. As that's settled, its time to put this thread to rest!

Worry not; just wait a few days and I'm sure the AA press room will deliver some juicy fodder. Slightly off-topic, I've been doing quite a bit of flying to/from BWI of late and WN's terminal is enough to make pax on other airlines' pax downright jealous when viewed from the taxi ways.

I few out of DAL on WN last weekend, and I am always amazed: is that the only large airport terminal in the US without an airside coffee shop? I was dying for a Starbucks. But the only coffee choices there seem to be Cinnabon (surprisingly bad coffee) and McDonalds.

I'm not surprised about the lack of decent coffee at DAL. That terminal is sooo 1970's (save for the prices). Personally, I consider the lack of amenities to be a trade-off for efficient travel though I'm now captive to AA having finally achieved EXP and thus seldom set foot in DAL.

Bad news for AA will be pulling out of DAL due to difficult economic. Sometime in the future if DAL will be complete done new terminal space in year of 2013.

American out/Delta in

With AA leaving Delta is filling its shoes. Initial flights to Memphis, and plans for Atlanta, Ohio, New York and other future hubs and expanded service once Wright is gone per local news.

AA is stating it currently does not have plans to give up its 3 soon to be brand new empty gates.

One wonders what will be AA's response. When CO came in to Love, AA added Austin-Hobby-LGA flights.

Agreed this will be interesting to watch. Pinnacle Airlines is actually going to be operating the flights as Northwest Airlink (at least until the NW/DL consolidation is completed).

This is the same Pinnacle that was planning to operate a mini-hub out of Love Field previously until AA and the DFW Airport Board got the City of Dallas to agree to tear down the recently completed Legend Airlines terminal as a condition to softening the Wright Amendment.

Regarding AA's gates, here's the key part of that article {emphasis added)

American spokesman Tim Smith said American will retain control of its Love Field gates after American Eagle stops service June 11, while its ticket counter space will revert to the airport's control.

American will "take our cue from the airport, and certainly [we] are willing to negotiate a sublease based on the ticket counter issue being resolved with the airport first, if necessary," Smith said. "We currently have no gate subleases signed for the gates with any carrier."
AA's lease on those three gates (which runs through 2028) is on a preferential use basis. If they're not using them and another new entrant needs space and there are no other gates available, then AA would be required to sublease the gates to the new entrant. However, AA will still retain control of the gates and can get them back in 2014 if they choose.

This same thing actually happened on a lesser scale to AA at Love Field back in the late 1990's

In mid-June, 1999 the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram reported:

Continental Express, citing increased demand among business travelers, has partially squeezed American Airlines from the gates the carriers share at Dallas Love Field.

Beginning July 9, Continental will add two daily Love-to- Houston round-trip flights, forcing American to shift three Love-to-Austin routes to Dallas/Fort Worth Airport beginning July 2, scrapping one daily flight in the process.

Continental Express can elbow American for space at Love Field because it has preferential use of gates 41 and 42, the gates shared by the two airlines but controlled by Continental.
As the leaseholder, AA would still have to pay rent to Love Field regardless of whether or not they were being used. So might as well sublease them to Delta for the time being and then kick them out come 2014.

I was reading up a bit on this and I believe AirTran still has service out of DFW, right? I know they've been pressuring Southwest to shutter the DFW gates but no luck yet.
