Buying basic points

I was just exploring the way in which I am able to buy points as I might be short on keeping my level and indeed, basic points can be bought even that as very pricey levels

BUT, SAS is also mentioning that "If your intention is that the purchased Basic Points will lead to a higher level in the current qualification period you should make sure that you purchase the Basic Points at least 123 days into your new qualification period."

Is this serious that you need to make this purchase about 4 months in advance of the start of the new qualification period? It sounds like a harsh rule that on MY points, I need to do this purchase 4 months in advance unless the "123 days" is a typo

It's the other way around, so you can purchase the points ~4 months into your new qualification period and receive them in your last and have status based on that :-)

I did not try to do any calculations but it might be better to fly for 150K points using cash and point tickets than to buy 10K basic points for it (I mean you might earn more points and still get the flying, if you can use it to some good effect). I am sure that someone here did the calculation and found good routes

Buying points is interesting in two scenarios: when you absolutely do not have time to fly right now, and if your qualification period is over (if studentCPH is right). The latter is a rather cool service, I think. Never heard of it before.

Exchanging points is bad deal, I think it is even cheaper to just buy basic points for cash. At least you could still do it earlier this year.

It seems that you are not able to buy basic points for cash any longer, but only by exchanging points for basic points in a 15:1 ratio.
Perhaps, a cheaper option (for Swedish residents only) is the AMEX Elite card which for 4000 SEK gives you 20 000 basic points (with a 20 000 extra point deduction, i.e. be total point balance will be neutral).

Must admit it's a 'amazing' feature that it's actually possible to buy basic point that will be posted 123 days back in time...
(From the Danish SAS eurobonus website: "Pointene vil vre dateret 123 dage fr kbsdatoen, s medlemmer der vlger at kbe Basispoint efter endt kvalificeringsperiode, kan n at stige i niveau i deres tidligere kvalificeringsperiode.")

The AMEX does not deduct points, they post as 20.000 Basic Points / 0 Extra Points - 'Sweden Domestic'.

So, they do not award any points for spending, just the tier status points.

I think the offer is also available in Norway.

The Norwegian Amex cards does not offer the 20 000 basic points.

There is also the option (at checkout for the above item) to choose to pay with points+cash in addition to paying with 100% cash. The ratio seems to be USD 0.086 per EB point, three times better than the rate for buying extra points outright (i.e. 25 EUR per 1,000). In other words, using points+cash and choosing all cash would cost USD 130 for 1,000 basic points, whereas buying the 15,000 extra points outright and then converting them would cost 375 EUR or USD 425.

new Eurobonus shop, don't see option to buy basic points...

Does anyone know whether it is still possible to buy basic points for either points or money?

The Eurobonus shop was down for a while and apparently the new site has launched today; but I don't see the possibility to buy basic points. Perhaps I am just looking incorrectly.

This was a nice feature, I hope it hasn't gone away (and I will be even irritated if it hasn't gone away, but the website is just broken...).

I talked to my contact about it and got the info that it will come back in near future, no date!

Thank for the info! ^

I guess I will have to decide whether to trust that the site is back soon or try to find time to fly a fewpoints. OTOH, the discussion above suggests that it's possible to buy points retroactively (unless this is enhanced away), so I guess I should be OK.

@neko I got some new info for you if you want to buy Basic points. You have to login and pay with points or credit card.

Cash price went up by ~20 per 1.000 points (now 1000 DKK for 1.000 points)
Points price went down by 5.000 points per 1.000 points (now 10.000 points for 1.000 points)

No option to pay partly with cash/points now, but can buy in 100's instead of 1000s nows. Mostly good news although if I really needed 1.000 points before and couldn't do a MR, I'd rather have bought for ~850 DKK than 15.000 points.

Also I can't check for other currencies, but I wouldn't be surprised if the cost was 1.000 DKK/SEK/NOK as always with SAS...

Interesting, that is not to far away from what you earn flying.
