iPhone/iPad app - Android also out

SAS-daughther company Widerøe has released Scandinavia's first iPhone/ipad-app. It may be downloaded through the usual channels.

You may book flights, check in for your SAS or Widerøe-flight, check flight status (you may also check SAS-flights at airports both SAS and Widerøe serve), get general information or see the latest Widerøe-news.

The app is in Norwegian and English and it will detect the language settings in your device automatically.

We have had reports of problems with iPad version 4.2.1 and it appears there is a bug from Apple's side. We're currently evaluating whether to attempt making a fix or wait for Apple to release an update.

And for you Androids out there - an Android version is under development too, but we have no ETA yet.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Thanks for posting! Is anyone here beta testing the new SK iPhone app? I signed up but I never heard anything...

Captainfire Nov 30, 2010 10:51 am

I too signed up, but haven't heard anything from them.
Last i heard about it, it had been rejected from apple because sas put in a feature they didnt like.

So I suppose that means the beta testing period is over? Makes no sense to beta test an app that has already been submitted to the AppStore, right?

That is what they wrote on facebook only 5 hours ago again:

"Hei Kenneth. Vi var nødt til å endre på noen ting i koden som Apple ikke godkjente i første omgang. Vi har n å inne vår Beta-versjon for godkjenning og den burde være klar for de 150 av våre facebook-fans som vi har trukket ut til å være Beta-testere i løpet av noen få dager. CK"

(No, I am not Kenneth :))

Another place on their facebook they said they got 500 applicants and need just 150 and will let them know as soon as it's ready.

good stuff. Why does little Wideroe have consistently better IT systems (and web support) than its parent SAS?

Robbiedeluxe Nov 30, 2010 1:06 pm

Well, the WF app just wraps WF's mobile site. The check-in feature is exactly the same found on https://ci.sas.mobi. What's the point of an app if all it does is embed some mobile website?

People want it. ;)

But seriously, there really is no point in reinventing the wheel when it comes to these things. However, this version is intentionally basic to get it through Apple's approval system. There will be more functionality added as we go forward.

Then the Android app is also out.

Unfortunatly, due to problems with Android 2.2, there are some 'issues'. Version 2.3 which will be released shortly, will cause our app - and 1000's of others based on WebView - not to work at all....

Due to the magnitude of these problems, we would hope that someone comes up with a solution ....
