I rode on BART yesterday and it felt almost post-apocalyptic. At 5:30 pm on a Saturday, I was one of maybe 6 passengers in the whole Embarcadero station. My Richmond train had about 25 passengers on board, about 1/3 of whom looked like they were homeless. That station would have been jam-packed at that time if the Giants had a game going, and still pretty busy on a regular April Saturday.

Another reason not to ride BART - police keep finding dead passengers.

Do the ridership statistics only include completed rides?

I’ll credit BART for reducing the noise of the trains, including the old ones. The new ones are a huge improvement.

I rode bart on Tuesday 10/5 while masked - daytime. The civic center station is awful and the bart itself was okay. I can’t even imagine riding it after 6p. Maybe 5p for winter. Omg.

Civic Center has long been the S.F. station I use most often. I'm heading there tonight, as it happens. It's always been among the sketchiest in the system. It's a very large station, and the surrounding area has a high concentration of homeless people.

Still, I've never felt unsafe inside the station. I know there have been serious incidents in there, but thankfully I've not witnessed any.

granted I’ve walked to and from civic many nights, just not in 2021. And I’d be happy to avoid. That said, I do believe that there is a greater police presence in that area for the benefit of all including those people attending public arts events in theatres and concert halls :-)
have fun tonight!
