airline miles for amazon.com?

I've been looking around.
Does anyone know if any of the mile malls have amazon.com as part of them to earn some miles?

The only thing listed on www.rewardsdb.com is rebates for UK sites. There is a thread here about a 10% donation to Amnesty Intl, but as I mentioned in the earlier thread, I usually go to the rewardsdb.com site to link there to thank Andrew Cram for all the work he has done on that site for all the other miles earning info.

Between he, PGary, and FT we have earned many, many miles!

Although its not listed on shop4miles' site as worth anything (it says 0 miles per dollar), a polite email to the customer service usually results in them offering one mile per dollar for Amazon.com. Think of it as an unadvertised bonus.

I just bought a few orders of books and by simply asking in this manner, I've been awarded 1 mile per dollar at Amazon for all those purchases.

You can buy Amazon gift cards (and I believe use them online) at giftcertificates.com if you earn miles at an airline partnered with them in some way.

For book purchases, I've gone through their partner site, Target, and gotten miles/points -- SOMETIMES. Some portals work, some don't. I figure if it works, it's also an unadvertised bonus :) One portal specifically says Amazon purchases excluded, so I have never tried that one...lol

I usually use nwa's milemall.

In NWAs mile mall you get 2miles per dollar through giftcertificates.com.

You could buy an amazon gift card earning the miles then use the giftcard online at amazon.com

At one point, with Citibank (Diamond Preferred Rewards) you could buy Amazon.com gift certificates and get 5% back. I don't remember whether that was on top of the 1% you'd get for regular purchases.

Anyway, if you have an Amazon.com credit card you can get 3% back. I'm pretty sure the details/links to apply are available from the Amazon.com site.
It may only give you gift certificates towards future purchases; don't remember.

I need to remember this :) Although I do prefer using credit cards for purchasing certain items for various reasons, such as additional warranty protection.

The amazon gift cards are electronic, correct? So they are issued right away?

Not sure about which portal offers the highest amount-would depend on your airline etc.

Amazon you can purchase ecards increments up to 100, but you could buy multiple. Not sure about the fees associated with each, but the miles usually outweigh it.

I usually check webflyer.com to find miles and points per dollar for any online merchant.

Hmm... it looks like there's a 10% plus $1 fee for buying amazon gift certificates on giftcertificates.com... that certainly outweighs any miles!

I feel the same way.

Yeah 10% is high. Some giftcards it's only 4 or 5 bucks, but it my case if I pay with an AMEX then I earn MR points in addition to any miles so it's usually a better deal for me.

Might want to check out points.com, not sure if Amazon is a partner with them...or think of another store perhaps ebay where you can buy giftcards for Amazon and earn miles. I know on points.com you can get 1mile per 2 dollars spent for ebay.

they'll get all my amazon.com business from here on in!

Altho I am not sure I want to incur the surcharges, I don't even see amazon.com OFFERED on giftcertificates.com :confused: Has anyone checked lately? I was clicking thru the usair.com portal.

Further along in my attempt to get miles for amazon.com... I do not see amazon.com available at giftcertificates.com (which nets 2 miles/$), BUT I do see Borders on giftcertificates.com. But when you go to borders.com, they no longer have their own site -- they have partnered w/amazon.com! Soooooo, it stands to reason that you could buy a gift certificate for borders (@ giftcertificates.com) and then redeem it @ amazon.com ^

That's what I did when I bought some stuff from LL Bean. They are on no portal, but you can purchase gift cards from giftcertificates.com for them. So I bought a $100 gift card, earned miles and then made my $99.90 purchase! :D (And guess what? LL Bean actually sent me a check for $.10 because I overpaid by 10 cents! :D)

FYI Giftcertificates.com is partnered with many many rewards programs (airline and non-airline) - see http://rewardsdb.com/product/Gift-Certificates.html for a list. So this approach (borders gift cards from GiftCertificates.com redeemed at Amazon.com) may work for people interested in a broader range of miles/points etc.

Of course as has been mentioned, you do need to look at the fees and balance these with buying the product from someone like Barnes & Noble who are directly linked to many programs (see http://rewardsdb.com/product/Barnes-and-Noble.html)

Borders has partnered with amazon.com for SEVERAL YEARS. (In fact, I believe they want to move away from that partnership.)

As Andrew pointed out above, the answer is NO (except perhaps for Borders purchases at amazon.com).

Folks, as our buddy cepheid can attest, there is a reason why it is so difficult to earn miles or cash rebates for Amazon purchases. It is because Amazon's contract with its "affiliates" (those who earn click-through commissions from Amazon) are expressly forbidden from splitting those commissions with others (e.g., the end users of their websites).

So, for example, shop4miles is apparently violating its contract with Amazon, and several posters here have "outed" that fact publicly. :rolleyes:

It looks like shop4miles no longer mentions Amazon at even 0 miles so looks like the were terminated from the program.

As I have mentioned before - most if not all of Amazon's online competitors have many, many rewards partners so it would be advisable to shop around and see what the item(s) you want cost from them. Then you can make the decision based on the price difference (if any) versus the potential rewards.

Borders.com is no longer partnered with Amazon.com - they have launched their own site. So no chance of that back door working for getting cashback from Amazon.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Amazon does NOT permit its affiliates to give rewards or cash back to customers who click through their (the affiliates') links to reach the Amazon site.

This can be verified by looking at Amazon's agreement with its associates, which is publicly accessible here:

Specifically, under item 4, Referral Fees, see the following at the beginning of the 5th paragraph:

Since one can't (according to Amazon's legal agreement with affiliates) get any rebates/cashback/miles/points, I instead continue to support a charitable organization (KCSM, a public radio/TV station) by clicking through the Amazon link on their website. KCSM gets about 8% of everything I purchase. I recommend that you find a charity you want to support that has an Amazon link on its website! ;)

I'm sure there will be doubters (to put it kindly) who will disbelieve me and argue with me :rolleyes: , but it is what it is. :p

If you're in the market for shoes, here's an idea.

Endless.com does have several cashback and miles offers and uses an Amazon shopping cart to check out, so you can use Amazon GCs there, and get miles or cashback.

If another store uses an Amazon cart, you could do the same thing.

Bummer. At one time you could buy Visa gift cards on Giftcertificates.com and get at least a couple of miles on the dollar from some vendors (AA was one, Amex for a while)....but looks like you can't order those any more.

Too bad, b/c you could buy the giftcard and get your points that way, then turn around & use it on Amazon...

Hey! Here's an idea. You get 6 points on the dollar for buying things at drugstores using Amex' Hilton Surpass card. Walgreens sells gift cards, both Visa and Amex. Next time I'm in there, I'm going to buy a couple to the tune of a couple hundred bucks, then use 'em on Amazon!

The problem is that the V/MC/AMX gift cards have fees on top of the face value which usually exceed the value of any miles you get.

I haven't seen Amazon gift cards for sale in one of those kiosks -- that would be a great way to get miles, though.

Rite Aid sells Amazon gift cards.

If you're going to shop at Amazon, at least find a school or a blog or some entity that you like, and click through their link. I understand Amazon not wanting splitting of affiliate commissions, but that doesn't mean they should get to keep it.

if you (and friends and family) shop a lot throuigh amazon, become an affiliate and get cashback or amazon gift certificate for your purchases.
