I have 1800 points to go before I can transfer them for Mileage Plus Miles. I hope any changes don't impact me negatively.

Thanks for the post. :)

Tenacious Apr 10, 2006 3:48 pm

Thanks!

dnotes Apr 10, 2006 3:52 pm

what happens to the miles that we were supposed to get when we were invited by united to join mypoints? or was that a scam?

tcook052 Apr 10, 2006 5:36 pm

Thanks to the OP. I'm within a few hundred points of redeeming for 5K so also hope no immediate changes until I can reach that level.

XStAnt Apr 10, 2006 6:02 pm

So do people think this will be good or bad for us.

People on FT are often leery of changes in their programs because it often leads to devaluation, etc. However I recall many people here being a little jittery about MyPoints because they were owned by United which was in bankruptcy.

I wonder if there will be any changes--good or bad.

CrazyOne Apr 10, 2006 8:33 pm

Remains to be seen, as always, I guess. Probably no immediate changes. Later we might see changes in rewards and such, particularly anything related directly to UAL.

The thing to watch of course will be if they try to devalue the points too much (from a redemption standpoint) or raise the price of the points (which achieves the same thing because chances to earn will go away or at least result in fewer points). But this would be counterproductive, I would think. The entity already makes profit. If they try to squeeze it too much, people will quit dealing with the hassle. So I wouldn't expect changes to be major.

what to do w my 11000 points?

Should I go ahead and redeem them?
I like cash, or some gift cards I can exchange...i.e. cards people are interested in
what is the best use for my 11000 points I have accumulated forever?
gift cards? which one is good value? bcos some cost more points than others

JudyJFLA Apr 10, 2006 9:33 pm

No wonder we are having problems in getting our points to post. The old company owners do not want to spring for buying the points, miles and cards, waiting to pass that obligation on to the new owners. If they delay replying to our emails for a period of time, they pocket more in the sale.
And who in their right mind pays $56 Million in cash for a company that only earned $2.4 million last year.

I'd redeem now. Back when Clickrewards was sold, I lost a bunch of points that hadn't posted yet, and then the only redemption I ever wanted disappeared. I'm waiting for several thousand pending points to become available for use so I can cash them out.

No one can tell you the best use of your points. Choose what you're most interested in.

I choose gift cards that I will use personally, but I try to get most value for points in that arena. Last time with a similar point balance to yours that meant mostly cards for Panera Bread, although I did get one Target card (which is a worse point to dollar ratio). I've gotten Home Depot and "Red Lobster" (actually all Darden restaurants, used them at Bahama Breeze) cards in the past, but you can see those are worse values as well (though not as bad as Target is now).

I have 2700 now, but 1000 of those are still pending from my last Office Depot order.

Actually, looking at the list now, the best point to dollar ratio is Bloomingdale's, at 5750 for a $50 card (equaling just 11500 for $100). There are a couple others at 6000 for $50 or 12000 for $100. And they go up from there. (This is not counting the UA $75 certificate, which carries restrictions.) Webcertificate is closest to cash equivalent, can be used as a MasterCard for anything you wish to buy online. But it's 7000 points for $50.

That's what I was wondering. So it was UA that invited us? I couldn't remember if the invite came from Mypoints or UA. I joined on Mar. 6 and haven't gotten the 500 UA miles yet. Seems like they usually say 6-8 weeks, so I'll wait a little longer before I start emailing them. thx tls

Companies they own include:
NetZero
Juno
NetZeroVoice
Freeservers
Bluelight internet service
PhotoSite
Classmates

So if you like these companies I guess it will probably be good and if you don't then it will probably be bad.

Last month they acquired Opobox for $10 million in cash
United Online, Inc. Acquires Opobox, Inc.
Acquisition of Namesdatabase.com Expands Company's Classmates Online Social Networking Unit
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., March 20, 2006 -- United Online, Inc. (Nasdaq:UNTD), a leading provider of consumer Internet subscription services, announced today that its social networking subsidiary, Classmates Online, Inc., has acquired Opobox, Inc., which operates The Names Database at www.namesdatabase.com, for approximately $10 million in cash.

It really can't get too much worse than the redemption of Hilton Points lately can it? :D

Yeah--I am getting inundated. I signed up myself, my two daughters, my mother-in-law ... of course all these people have a life so I and up getting all of the mypoints email (times five) in my inbox. I click on all the 5 point offers. My wife's actually goes to her email address. She already got a Starbucks card--that worries me--it means she bought into one of their offers!

I'll be glad when the UAL miles post so I can cut them off--the things we do for miles.

dnotes Apr 21, 2006 1:32 pm

i actually got my miles for joining mypoints credited dec 21, 2005. talk about fast! wow. so i called today and didn't realise it as i was expecting it for 2006. hmm. anyways so much for that. time to unsubscribe there.

Bam Man Emeril Apr 21, 2006 4:03 pm

I still love my points!

KBrownCA Apr 21, 2006 9:10 pm

I tried to redeem points but I didn't see any rewards listed last night.

morgan1929 Apr 21, 2006 9:50 pm

Be careful making large purchases. My girlfriend made 3 large purchases of makeup in January and February. All of the Mypoints posted to her account. She redeemed for Hilton points in March, but they never posted to her Hilton account. Yesterday and today all of the points from the purchases were reversed. She has emailed Mypoints and is waiting for a reply.

natalie Apr 24, 2006 8:15 am

I did those 'instant' points under the 'in the spotlight' and they still have posted. I also have plenty of pending points. Enough to cash in for HH. I lost quite a lot with click rewards previously.

Soooo, what equivalent yet-to-be-declining programs are out there. I haven't been keeping up lately.

harummpf

well i would like some info from My Points!! I always get various emails from the airlines updating me on the schemes and plans going on...why not mypoints? maybe they don't want us to freak out? I have been hoarding points for a while now, no good reason, just thinking i would cash out in gift caards come christmas...I don't convert them to hilton points cuz god knows I have enough of THOSE....well, hey christmas in May might not be such a bad idea??

ITTIA

ErthCrclr Apr 24, 2006 6:04 pm

I redeemed points for a $50 Macy's card on 4/11.
It was postmarked 4/19 and arrived on 4/22.
So this is one transaction that appears to go smoothly at MyPoints.

magic168 Apr 24, 2006 7:31 pm

Wow i haven't redeemed with MyPoints lately and built up around 8k points. Points have devalued so much. $50 used to be 5K points, then went up to 5250, then 5750, and now 6250? :(

panicked Apr 24, 2006 9:54 pm

Mypoints has definitely devalued their points, but it's still worth it for me. I've never had any problems redeeming Barnes and Noble or Webcertificate gift certs, although they usually don't arrive in the mail until well after I've forgotten that I ordered them.

Jaybee Apr 25, 2006 11:28 am

What's up with MyPoints?

I have redeemed my points for Hilton points several times in the past. My DH finally got enough points in his account to get 2500 Hilton points, which we did about a month ago. We share a joint Hilton account, and he had no problem getting his points to transfer, but when I tried last week to redeem mine for Hiltons , I got an error message, saying another member has that account number. I've tried twice to get an answer, but all I get is the auto reply.

just now i got an invitation by united to join mypoints. as a rule of thumb i've avoided these consumer driven sharing schemes, what gives, was mypoints for real, or was this a United marketing vehicle as user community investment similar to News Corp. buying myspace?

anyhow, i came here to look up this mypoints crap that united spammed me with and came across this thread. thanks guys.
