GreenZap (Scam or not, discussion)

Is "GreenZap" a scam?

Didn't want to interrupt the conga on the other post, but wanted to start a meaningful discussion here on whether or not you all believe this to be a scam. I can't imagine they will be able to pay out, so there will at least be some sort of a catch to it.

Thoughts?

I thought about that too.
They didn't ask for much of the info paypal or neteller ask for.
However, flooz didn't ask very much either. they existed for 2 years before going bankrupt.
So, I figured, either way, as long as they pay, and exist long enough for me to use my free money, that's ok with me.
They only ask for email, home address and name. Nothing private about that.

Looks phishy to me

I dunno. I'll give out name, address, and email for spam, but anyone can send out a press release. No mention of who the backers are.

When they go live, if it takes more to get the $25, I'm outta there. :p

Good luck to us all!

A google search gives some less-than-flattering analysis of the site, including some stuff on consultants being linked to other Internet scams.

I'm not sure I'd hold my breath on this one anymore. At least they didn't ask for much more than an address and e-mail.

I searched for the alleged President on Google. The only sites that came up with his name were copies of GreenZap's press release.

The link above also says the company had a "community forum" where there were some allegations made against the company. The forum was then closed for "security reasons"

All I know is that every time the government says something happens for "security reasons" it's a lie and meant to cover up something.

probably the safest thing to do is just take whatever free money they give and don't deposit any until they prove themself.

I signed up, but it still seems a little suspicious.

Especially the referral bonues. You get $25 for signing up; the person who referred you gets $5. For each person you sign up you get another $5. For each of those people who puts at least $100 in their account, you get another $20. Or something like that.

And then try making sense of this piece of work:
Quote:

* GreenZap will fully reward you for everyone in your community and will continue doing so until another member of your community begins to earn community rewards. From that point, and just for that particular earner, you will begin to share your reward. For example, if you personally refer 30+ GreenZap Gold account holders, and someone in your web (say, John Smith) has personally referred 10 GreenZap Gold Account holders, then, you would continue to earn the difference of $20 from every Gold Account holder in John Smith’s community (i.e. $30 - $10 = $20). Further, if you have personally referred 30+ GreenZap Gold account holders, and John Smith also refers 30+ GreenZap Gold Account holders, GreenZap will continue to reward you with a minimum of $5 per Gold Account Holder in John Smith’s community.

Here's something that might interest everyone: San Diego BBB's comment on GreenZap:

Long story short-- They're concerned about GreenZap

I signed up for greenzap, but couldn't really see how their business model could get them any money. I guess the best thing is just to wait and see if anybody gets anything - but don't give them any financial info.

Beware of GreenZap!!

More news and info on GreenZap. This came from another forum
from which someone did an investigation on this company.

This does NOT look good at all. :td:

I figured it out!

Just got this e-mail:

"The choice is yours.
Stay Green. Or Go Gold!

Just by going Gold, you'll minimize your transaction feez while maximizing your community rewardz. Stay tuned to learn more! In the meantime, if you're zappy and you know it, zap it on!"

They're going to make us "go gold" (at a hefty fee, no doubt) in order to redeem our "community rewardz" (i.e., referral bonuses).

If it costs us $25 to "go gold" and our referral bonus is $25, then it's a break even for GreenZap, AND they'll get all sorts of financial information as part of the going gold process. If so, I'll stay green and forego my bonus. That last post (above) was pretty scary.

All I know is that I'm already tired of the constant SPAM I get from this "company."

any007 May 24, 2005 4:49 pm

the way greenzap keeps pressing for people to spend money, it follows the classic pattern of bait and switch.
I would just take what they give you and cash out at first chance.

any007 Jun 4, 2005 10:29 pm

just a thought.
didn't paypal offer $10 or $5 for signing up and referral money too?
(I'm not saying greenzap is legit)

auher Jun 8, 2005 9:41 pm

Well it appears that the website works, and if I so wanted I could withdraw my $24 ($25 - $1 fee) and walk away. Not a bad deal.... think I might do that.

There's some complicated scheme with a $100 gold account where if I deposited that, I would get access to more money that is referral, but that part honestly seems like a classic ponzi scheme.

Anyone else get the emails and withdraw?
