Just tried the link (for the second time) nad it refused any amount under $10. Looks like they plugged the leak.

Will have to see if the first purchase is honored???

I got the 500 for 1 cent! Woo hoo! I think the trick is to use Visa or MC, not Amex, based on the failed endeavor for Amtrak's 40 cent North Carolina fare last week!

Thanks for the tip! My timer is set!

I just noticed, but not until I got six gift certificates through. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

The gig is up, I think. I just tried for my third hourly purchase and the GC engine will no longer accept under $10. I even tried a date far into the future and then editing a $10 GC--to no avail. Glad I got 1,000 points (hopefully) before the loophole was closed.

How long until that one gets pulled??!!

O.K. You guys, all is not lost. I've been thinking about this.
What you do is buy a gift certificate for $12.00 at Zappos. Send it to yourself the first hour. You get 500 points.
Next hour use your gift certificate to buy some socks. They have quite a few three-packs of athletic socks for $5.95 with no shipping charge. Make this purchase and you'll earn another 500 points.
Come back an hour later and buy another pair of the same socks with what's left on your gift certificate. Earn another 500 points.
After all is said and done, you have earned 1,500 points for $11.90 (a bit more if you must pay sales tax).
You're still way ahead, since it only takes 1,400 points for a $10 gift certificate at WalMart to buy even more socks with, plus you already have plenty of socks.
Anyone care to try? Anyone going to thank me?

Nice idea -- the only catch is whether a sale of less than zero would trigger the points?

I haven't tried. But you enter in your gift certificate code when you look at your shopping cart. Whether you paid for your purchase by credit card or with a gift certificate, I hope both ways still counts as a sale which trigger the 500 point pop-up window.

The directions to the gift certificate indicates it will have value until you use it all up. If there's not enough value left, you use a credit card for the difference.

I'll be the first to say Thank You! Very creative I must say.

I like the sock idea--I'd feel too guilty with the $.01 or even $1 ideas. Was a little surprised, however, to be charged sales tax on a gift certificate ($1.02 on $12). Am I going to be charged tax on the socks, as well? We can always use socks, so I feel I've honestly earned my 500 points (hopefully soon to be 1500). Just remember the free shipping is only until March 14.
