CompuBank dumps ClickRewards
email from CompuBank:
At CompuBank, we constantly evaluate programs to ensure that we offer products and services that you value most. Because of the limited interest in the ClickMiles program, CompuBank will discontinue offering ClickMiles effective February 1, 2001. We welcome your input as to programs or services you would like to see CompuBank consider. Our goal is to expand our products and services to best serve your needs. Be assured that any ClickMiles earned from CompuBank through January 31, 2001 are still redeemable through www.clickrewards.com. Please remember that although you can redeem ClickMiles earned through CompuBank for frequent flier miles on seven major airlines, ClickMiles earned through CompuBank are not redeemable for frequent flier miles on Delta or American Airlines. As always, thank you for banking at CompuBank. Client Services [Edited to fix poor formatting] [This message has been edited by onefreeman (edited 01-27-2001).] |
Kind of sounds like they took a play from the Delta handbook....."It's a very nice perk, but since YOU told us YOU don't really use it that much, we are going to get rid of it because that is what YOU want." Let me see......how quick can I cancel my Compubank account?
|
limited interest?!!! that was the main interest why I moved my banking to compubank. I acknowledge that they have excellent customer service but without clickmiles, I can get that customer service at many other places. I'm pulling out!!!!
|
It was the only reason I went to Compubank, but I'll probably stay for the service. It's the drug dealer mentality that all banks have (use to work for a bank), give them something for free (say ATM transactions), get them hooked on them, then either take them away or start charging for them (ATM transactions) and the people will stay with it.
By the way, everybody should also reply to the e-mail urging them to stay with clickrewards, it may do nothing, or they may see how many people were actually interested in them. |
How dissappointing. I sent them my 2 cents worth encouraging them to keep Clickmiles.
|
This is awful. That is how I earned most of my ClickMiles. Well I will have to close that account when I return from Thailand.
It was a great having a debit card that earned miles but that is now in the past. I have a feeling that a lot of people will close their accounts because of this. There are a lot of banks out there, both regular and online. They reeled us in through ClickRewards and now they are dropping the program. Well I hope enough people cancel their accounts that they change their mind. |
Great, I was just going to open an account.
|
I'm sure there are MANY of us who only joined CompuBank for the Clickrewards. I replied to theri email with my displeasure and asked them to re-consider. I'd suggest everyone email them and join their concerns.

"limited interest"????
I bet they are discontinuing the ClickMile program not because of limited interest, but because of UNLIMITED EXPENSE on their part. It's the main reason I opened the account to begin with, and probably the discontinuance will be the main reason I might close it. I might keep it open just to be able to send and receive free wire transfers. This BITES! Attached is my "letter" to Compubank.... My fingers are crossed they change their mind!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif **************** Limited Interest?? I don't think my interest has been limited at all. Your ClickRewards affiliation was probably the MAIN reason I quickly opened an online banking relationship with CompuBank, and now your subsequent elimination of the program could no doubt prompt me to close it just as quickly. It's truly unfortunate CompuBank has made this decision, not only for me, but also for other account holders as well. I visit many of the frequent flyer websites/discussion groups regularly, and I can tell you that there are some VERY unhappy customers out there....all of whom are leaning toward account closure as well. The least you could have done was given more notice than four (days)! As well, it would have been nice to allow those currently in the program to remain, but prohibit it for new enrollees. Did you consider that option to keep current account holders pleased who enjoy the program? I do thank CompuBank for its affiliation with ClickRewards in the past. I've been able to earn a lot of miles through the use of my debit card. In my book, besides flying, it was THE BEST way to earn miles! Please re-instate the program!!!!!!!!! |
it was awfully short notice, i think. that's kinda strange.
are there any forecasts on the general health of clickrewards itself? i'm getting a little ishy because my points are tied up in: 1.TWA Aviators. Um. We all know what's up here. 2.Clickrewards. 3.AmEx Membership Rewards 4.OnePass. 3&4 are sure things, but less useful. i wouldn't wanna see clickrewards die. |
FRom the Compubank letter, you must read between the lines:
"We were the one's that were dropped by Clickrewards. See, they knew we were a small-time operation & because of our contract, which recently ended, they decided to go with a major bank and co-brand a Visa/Mastercard so they can make MUCH MORE money than with CompuCrap. We hope you understand that they found out we sucked but we are telling you in this letter that WE were the ones that broke off the ENGAGEMENT, not THEM!! And don't let anyone tell you different! OK? Uh, by the way, don't leave us because we offer an amazing 3.8%! Yeah, there are net banks paying 6% with no minimum deposits, but we know you guys are too **** stupid & lazy to switch. A couple of you smart guys will switch, but most of you guys have your paycheck rolling into us & you know what an administrative pain that is to change! You guys are lazy so fughhetaboutit! HahA!......Ok!.....So lets continue to do biznezz!" Uh, come again?! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! FOr all of you in this position, if you need a free rewards card, sign up with Yahoo Visa (1%) or Nextcard Amazon (2% return). Clickrewards will come out with a co-branded Visa/MC soon--so I've heard. ANYWAYS, for MANY Compubankers that wil leave (i.e. 90%), go to 6% earning Virtualbank.com. HASTA LA VISTA COMPUBANK. NEVER LIKED HAVING MONEY IN TEXAS ANYWAYS! With people like ex-governor George W. Bush running the state, it doesn't lend much confidence does it? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Besides Chase, does any other bank, online or not, offer miles for debit cards?
|
I know that First USA United has a FREE card that resembles the Chase debit 2 miles/$1 schema. The UNited card also offers 2:1.
|
I think we should complain to clickrewards as well.
I'd suggest everyone concerned by this * should close their account in protest and then reopen it if they want to keep it. * Email clickrewards complaining about this. |
The firstUSA is a credit card, I was looking for a debit card. The chase one is one mile for every two dollars spent, when you are use to a one for one, you hope to find something the same, but I believe the only other bank giving miles is BankDirect, but that isn't for everyday transactions.
Funny, Clickrewards still has a banner ad on their site to earn unlimited miles with CompuBank and still has live.looksmart.com listed. [This message has been edited by cordelli (edited 01-27-2001).] |
