Splitting the check ?? multiple 250 bonuses??

Hi all

Does anyone think Ill have issues splitting the check to get multiple 250 every meal bonuses? For example today, we ate and the bill came to $50. I split the bill btwn 2 cards I have registered with idine. My thought is I would get the 10 ps/dollar spent and then 250x2 .. one for each card. I would think that theoretically I could split it btwn 3 cards and get 750 plus the miles for dollars spent.
Thoughts?

Thanks

I've done it with many dines so far, no problem...

...if you can deal with the funny look you'll get from the waiter/waitress, you should have no problem :p
I especially do this with a colleague who is a fellow mile hound. We split the tab 50/50 and tip up enough so each one of us gets over the $15.00 dine minimum (for AA). I've even done it when I'm the only person dining, AND using the same CC for the multiple 'dines'.

Yes, each separate transaction of $15+ should get a bonus. However, others have reported here that multiple charges linked to the same airline from the same restaurant on the same day do not (usually) post automatically. Don't be surprised if you end up having to send those receipts to Rewards Network for credit.

Vary each transaction that is linked to the same airline from the same restaurant on the same day by a penny, and you'll be fine 99% of the time. When the airline sees the multiple transactions identical in amount and in the same day/restaurant, it appears as if Rewards Network made a mistake by posting multiple identical transactions.
I purchased 4X $20 gift cards at the same place (each transaction just minutes apart), but charged them at $20, $19.99, $19.98, $19.97 (the difference I paid cash in pennies). They all posted with no problems.

I wish I had that suggestion yesterday lol

We'll see how it turns out.

In the past (not during this promotion), I did just that - split the bill for multiple dines. I ate dinner, and the bill was $50 and paid that. Before I left, I ordered 2 meals to take home. That bill was also $50.

I told the server that it was for 2 people and I would like the bill charged as $25 twice. They did it with no problem. The only thing was that I had to send in the receipts to idine to get 4 dines posted (4 @ $25 each).

Besides the extra time and expense for the FAX, I received 4 dines from this restaurant for my $100!

Yesterday, I went to an idine sub shop and split my check. I put 2 subs (about $12) on one CC and 2 sodas (about $2.50) on a second CC. I used the UA and US bonus programs (they do not have any minimum), so each charge counts as 1 dine in each program!

Did it on Sunday - $36 bill, split into two, and they posted yesterday. (I'm going for the AA 250-mi bonus with $15 min)

Never would have thought about it. How long before the 250 bonus shows up? So you have used two different credit cards, each tied to the AA program, and received the 250 bonus - have you seen the bonuses yet?

According to the T&C, the 250 bonuses will post a within a few weeks of the end of the program.... so we'll have to see.

As for the cards... it could be the same cards, or different cards.. just make sure that you vary the total on each check by a couple cents (to be safe).

This is important if you want the miles you earned to post promptly, otherwise you'll be faxing in receipts when only one of the tickets post! If fact, this happened to me today with 3X $25 charges I did in the same venue a few minutes apart. Only one posted and I had to fax the receipts today.

You can also do this with non-milehouds, such as a spouse.

This discussion is focused on iDine bonuses, but the tactic can also be used for topping off FF accounts. When I needed X amount to top off an account, I asked the waiter to charge one card for, say $20, and put the rest on another card linked to another account. No questions asked.

I've done this before, for "legitimate" reasons, when taking a friend out to dinner while I'm on expenses -- I put my dinner on my corporate card and his dinner on my personal card. So if you get funny looks, just explain it that way :)

Its been working fine for me. I've been buying gift cards a new Steakhouse that opened up for Christmas gifts, been splitting the checks at several places on a few cards trying to rack 'em up any way I can. I've explained it away a few times as a business thing but for the most part people don't really care. Plus I tip them extra if they're nice and easygoing about it and dont roll their eyes or anything like that. I'm saving all the receipts for tracking but so far so good when they actually show up in my idine account.
