I can think of a few 'enhancements', but better not give them any ideas.

No, it isn't.

I have reserved seats for November, January, and April. These are still in the system and can be changed free of charge.

Related: Just saw that revenue Business Classic fare also doesn't include seat selection, is this new or has this always been the case? I was under the impression that paid seat selection was only on Business Lite fares

Crap. I just booked and notice the fee on the seatmap. Should have booked immediately last weekend. Though the fare description still shows seat selection is included! Will ask for a manual exception then.

No, Classic also doesn't include seat selection since 2021 https://onemileatatime.com/news/qata...s-class-fares/ . I'll ask mods to amend the subject "QR charging seat selection fees in redemption J wef 3 Nov 2025"

With this change, can you still choose seats at check-in or is it randomly assigned to you?

You can still choose at check in provided there are seats available.

That's good to know. So I'd be safe changing them if I wished?

Yes, I did that yesterday after Qatar changed the aircraft for January again.

In a dummy booking, the seats are charged directly during the booking process. If they also charge for seats that have already been booked, you should see this directly when you make the change. In my case, it was free of charge yesterday and the change was also confirmed by email.

And they will undoubledly find it in themselves to make it more awful and vile in the not-too-distant future.
